Parents get a rest from all those science fair, book report, and other take home projects because ONLY THE TEAM MEMBERS CAN DO THE WORK! Interference and
Destination ImagiNation® www.IDODI™ .org | © 2011 Destination ImagiNation, Inc. It is INTERFERENCE, for anyone who is not a member of the team to do any of the work or give any ideas that contribute to the presentation the team will make on competition day. www.IDODI™ .org | © 2011 Destination ImagiNation, Inc. These represent the areas where a Team Manager or Resource expert may assist the team.
The Solution, in the top of the triangle, represents the area where those who are not team members may NOT venture. www.IDODI™ .org | © 2011 Destination ImagiNation, Inc. What CAN Team Managers DO? Next www.IDODI™ .org | © 2011 Destination ImagiNation, Inc. You obviously have been studying your Team Manager Guide.
It is important for the team to understand the Team Challenge as thoroughly as possible and it is suggested that the team discuss the Challenge together regularly. Answer A Excellent The Team Manager asks each team member to read one of the elements of the problem and explain what it means.
Question: Is it Interference for the Team Manager to write each element on a piece of paper and ask the team to group the elements so that it now has a bubble diagram that organizes the elements, copy them and give the copies to each team member?
A Having the team break apart the Challenge and then giving them copies is a good technique for evaluating what the Challenge requires.
B. The Team Manager may only read the Challenge to the team but cannot have them dissect it.
C. The Team Manager may have the team break the Challenge into a bubble diagram but may not record anything. Test Yourself Next www.IDODI™ .org | © 2011 Destination ImagiNation, Inc. You understand that:
Words and/or ideas recorded must be the team’s own and may not be added to or embellished.
The Team Manager may promote discussion and helping team gather information and resources.
The Team Manager may record and write down the team’s ideas in idea-generating sessions.
The Team Manager may type or write out the team’s script ideas Answer A
Congratulations A B C An Elementary Level team is brainstorming its solution.
Is it Interference for the Team Manager to write down the team members' ideas for later review?
The Team Manager:
can take meeting notes in team members’ own words
may write summaries of team discussions
is not allowed to take meeting notes Test Yourself www.IDODI™ .org | © 2011 Destination ImagiNation, Inc. Your team watches a YOUTUBE video of another team doing your Challenge in another state. They really like a particular element in the other team’s solution.
Can your team use it?
Yes No www.IDODI™ .org | © 2011 Destination ImagiNation, Inc. Test Yourself Next www.IDODI™ .org | © 2011 Destination ImagiNation, Inc. Always think of the Interference Triangle. Since someone other than a team member has given them an idea – it enters the “Solution” part of the Triangle? In this case, another team gave them the idea thus you are right and this would be Interference. Answer No
