Performance in a group Starter Structure - Yes it is VERY important! Review: Independently complete the sheet of dance dance performance skills... New information Consider the tips below - this is what makes a great piece of dance. What have you improved today?

What do you need to work on? Original Idea and researched idea Original movement

Plan rehearsals, and make sure you leave a couple of weeks just to practice

Music is edited to the right length (not faded out)

Motifs have been developed – repetition, change of levels/direction/pathways, variation of same movements

Excellent use of Space and Dynamics
Dance has a climax (exciting bit in the middle!) Clear structure
Costume is planned out carefully

Sophisticated use of dancers – unison, contrasting canon, complementary canon, duets, solos, trios etc within group

In this structure there is a section that is always repeated (section A) possibly with developments.
In between this, there are different sections that provide a contrast to section A.
These can all be different, or some could be repeated, for emphasis. Structures for Dance A B C B A – Arch
In this structure there are three sections.
Section A is first, and is repeated at the end.
Section B is the second section, and is also repeated.
Section C is the middle section. It is not repeated, but is the climax (high point) of the dance. Structures for Dance A B C – Ternary
This Structure is also simple. There are three sections.

This Structure is very simple. There are two sections.

A B A C A D… Rondo Structures for Dance Every dance we choreograph will be made up of different sections.
The structure is the order we put the sections of our dance in.
There are four basic structures that we can use when choreographing dances Structures for Dance Task - Discuss the different structures in your groups. + & -'s


You must then decide on which structure you are aiming for.

Be prepared for me to come and discuss it with you and for you to justify (give a reason) for it.

Extension: Which movements would fit with each section?
How could you develop motifs to fit each section?

Work on developing your dance with this in mind. After viewing these slides you must discuss the different structures in your groups. + & -'s


You must then decide on which structure you are aiming for.

Be prepared for me to come and discuss it with you and for you to justify (give a reason) for it.
