DOWNTOWN COFFEE BREAK 2016
KICK OFF JUNE 3, 7-10PM AT BRIDGEPOINT PLAZA
FIRST FRIDAY SUMMER CONCERT SERIES
The First Friday Summer Concert Series kicks off Friday, June 3 with South of Heaven opening for Jerry on the Moon at Bridgepoint Plaza.
Can you believe the 18th season of the First Friday Series is HERE? The event is a joint effort of the Downtown Development Authority and the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID). Business and property owners within this district have joined together to bring you this FREE event in the heart of the city. “The downtown businesses make this summer tradition possible”, says Ann Arnold, Downtown Development Authority Director. “As you shop and visit within the historic district, remember this series is funded entirely through their generosity.” The public is encouraged to support downtown businesses by eating, shopping and utilizing downtown business services before and after concerts. This is a great opportunity for quality family entertainment in the heart of the City. The concerts are held rain or shine. Remember your lawn chairs and blankets, as bleacher seating is limited.
Concerts begin at 7pm and end at 10pm. Concessions are sold by approved non-profit organizations only. For information and a schedule, please click on the “Calendar” tab on our website! Also, pick up a First Friday Concerts Brochure or contact our office at 706-236-4520!
Parking downtown has never been easier thanks to the Parkmobile App and the "We Validate" campaign. Parkmobile provides drivers with the capability to pay for parking using a mobile application for iPhone, Android, Windows, Amazon, and Blackberry phones. Customers will be able to enjoy 1 hour of free parking in the E. 1st Street parking lot when using Parkmobile with promo code 1offRome. Parkmobile’s mobile payments system is very simple and easy to use. Customers need only register online at www.parkmobile.com or by downloading the mobile app through their smartphone’s app store. Once registered, users may use the mobile app, internet, or a toll free number to pay for parking. After setting up an account, customers can immediately start using the system with their registered mobile phone.
PARKING MADE EASY THANKS TO PARKMOBILE AND THE "WE VALIDATE" CAMPAIGN
Enforcement officers will be able to see that a motorist has paid with Parkmobile using a wireless handheld device, so customers should not worry if the meter does not change. Mobile app users may also choose to receive reminders 15 minutes prior to expiration of their parking, as well as extend parking sessions remotely. Time limits on meters and parking lots still apply, and Parkmobile will not allow users to purchase more time than allotted by the meters or lots.
Last spring the Downtown Development Parking Office announced the launch of the “We Validate” campaign for parking in downtown. The purpose of the program is to increase parking options for customers by offering parking validations for parking off of Broad Street. Businesses participating in the program will display an image of the parking validation logo in their windows. Validations will be offered for those who park off-street either at the Annex Lot on E. 1st or at the 3rd Avenue parking deck. The first hour of parking in the 3rd Avenue parking deck is free. To validate parking, customers simply need to ask participating businesses for a validation ticket.
For additional details about the program or downtown Rome parking questions, contact the Parking Services Office at 706-236-4458.

Rome Downtown Development Authority design committee in partnership with Rome Area Heritage Foundation, Rome Area History Museum and Rome Business Improvement District, have taken on the task of developing a Historic Plaque Program that identifies the original use and date of construction of properties within the central business district of Rome. Buildings will be identified and owners of those properties solicited to purchase a plaque. While the over focus will be in three stages [Phase 1 Buildings pre 1900; Phase 2 1901-1930; Phase 3 After 1931], participation will be on a first come basis.
Owners will be offered a 50% grant for participating. The matching grant is provided by The Rome Area Heritage Foundation and the Rome Business Improvement District.
Plaques are $200 each and the goal is to fund approximately 30 individual properties each year for a period of three years, focusing primarily on Broad Street. Multiple plaques may be purchased for properties with multiple store fronts.
Join the walk thru time and honor the history of your property by purchasing a plaque.
