Results: 10% of Allied Soldiers were dead, wounded or missing. Germany lost between 4,000-9,000 soldiers. Many French Civilians were killed. D- DAY VS. Code Named Operation Overlord was popularly called
D-Day.
The Normandy Invasion was the largest amphibious assault ever planned. Adolf Hitler commited suicide on April 30th,and by May 7th Germany had surrendered. June 6th, 1944 The plan of Operation Overlord had been planned and prepared since 1943, almost two years in advance. The Allied Forces wanted to Liberate Western Europe from Germany and disrupt their communications with France. The five beaches were along the Normandy coast of France. "Overlord proved a psychological and physical blow to German military fortunes from which they would never recover." Allied troops take down the Nazi flag.
