Constellations By: Sadia and Sumayyah Stars The difference between galaxies and constellations Motion of stars What are constellations? Stars are huge balls of gas in outer space. It is made from hydrogen, helium and other elements. They usually last for a billion years. A force of gravity pushes into itself, creating a star. Stars produce light, heat and other forms of energy. The beautiful stars that you see in the night sky are actually very far away from the earth. Stars can also give out energy in 8 different types of class. Really, A constellation is a group of stars that can make a picture by connecting them. But they include fewer stars. Galaxies, on the other hand, have a massive collection of stars, billions and trillions of stars. The only similarity is they is
include stars. Constellation is a pattern of bright, highly visible. In
the ancient days, constellation represented some kind of picture. The constellations that we know came from ancient Greece, Rome and the Middle East. Constellation also navigate hikers if they are lost. They can see the sky and view the constellation and be on the right track. Not just that, Ancient Greece actually discovered
constellations in the first place, figuring out what picture they could represent. there 88 constellations
around the earth and there is an imaginary sphere
scientists use to study called the
Celestial Sphere. The motion if star is similar to the sun itself. With the different times of day, the sun seems to move across the sky. This is the same with the stars; if you stare at the night sky, the stars appear to move. Due to this observation you can conclude that the entire sky rotates above us, which is called the 'apparent' motion of stars. The 'actual' movement of stars is the stars moving itself. Because they are so far away, you can't trace its own movement. If you were to trace a thousand years and put it into and hour, you would then be able to see the motion of it clearly. The real movement of stars is the star moving itself. Stars are so far away, you can't track its own movement if you were to track billions years and and put into hour you would then be able to see the motion of the star clearly. Baby Stars What are Stars? Stars start out as clouds of gas and dust which are called Stellar Nebula(Nurseries) The strong force of gravity slowly pulls particles inside these clouds closer together, which cause dense clumps to form. The above-mentioned clumps grows big enough, the pressure caused by one of the baby protostars, which begins to generate heat. Heat and pressure builds until nuclear fusion reaction to take place in the core. Gravity pulls hydrogen atoms together, smashing and fusing them into heavier helium atoms. Nuclear fusion generates on great amount of energy, causing star to form. This part of the star's life is called main sequence. It lasts for trillions of years. The star will die when it uses up all the hydrogen in its core. Death Stage There are two ways that star can die. If the star was huge, it
will expand many time its size. It is called Super Red Giant. If the star was average, it will expand too. This stage is called Red Giant. This happens because the star surface cool down with a red glow.After when they lose all their fuel, and they push themselves in, which results into shrinking which lasts 50 000 years! After the red giant shrinks, they release hot gas and expose which makes glowing dust around the surface. Those are called planetary nebula.
If the Super Red Giant explodes it becomes a supernova. The supernova explosions lasts for months and months! Can be as bright as a galaxy with billions and billions stars. Due to the new stars can be created. After Planetary Nebula Stage it shrinks to white dwarf. If the star formed into supernova it would shrink to Singularity(Black Hole) or neutron star. The remainder of a supernova is called a Crab Nebula! Black Hole A black hole is a strong force of nothing, created by stars, that suck in everything in its way. Once an item gets sucked in, it'll never come back. it forms as when a star loses all the fuel in its self, it collapses into its self. After it explodes (which is called a supernova). It just basically pushes into itself. Many scientists think that the Milky Way was created by this, by many black holes. There is a point in the black hole called "Event Horizontal", basically where they never return. A black hole is almost like completely invisible but a white light visible around it. It is very powerful and there is probably one in our galaxy you don't want to mess with! Einstein first discovered
black holes. You! Lost Boaters Constellations If a boater is lost, they can see the sky and navigate. Then be on the right track. For example, some boaters used to use the north star to travel!
