History of Abercrombie & Fitch
Originated in 1891 as a retail sporting goods store in N.Y.C.
For over 50 years, A&F was known for their expensive and exotic sporting equipment.
Filed for bankruptcy in 1976.
Oshman's Sporting Goods, Inc. bought the company in 1978.
The Limited, Inc. bought A&F in 1998, and changed it to a "casual luxury" brand.
Abercrombie denim jeans are made of 100% cotton
Denim is usually made of blue cotton warp yarn and white cotton filling yarn
There are 5 different styles of denim, and all are or have been used by A&F

2003- Lawsuit was filed against A&F for forcing employees to buy and wear their products when working, there is still strict dress codes for employees
Milan retailers punish employees by forcing them to do pushups and squats.
June 17, 2011- Male model was persuaded to perform inappropriate actions before the photo shoot- sued A&F for $1 million
2004- $40 million lawsuit was filed for discriminating against African American, Hispanic, and Asian employees
2009- Worker with a prosthetic arm was forced to work in the stock room
November 2011- Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino sued the company for $4 million-
A&F had offered to pay him to not wear their clothing on Jersey Shore- it gives them a bad image
May 2013- Complaints about not offering plus sizes for women surface

2013- 3 Muslin women sued A&F for not hiring/firing them because of their headscarves

Using ceramic balls, enzymes, and sand give denim a natural appearence.
Created by denim being sprayed with a sand or chemical mixture during the washing process in order to create a distressed look.

Jonathan Ramsden, A&F's Chief Financial Officer, announced recently that they will be offering plus sizes for women on their website in 2014- Nothing was mentioned about offering Women's Plus Sizes in A&F stores themselves

Jeans were created in 1853 during the California Gold Rush, by Levi Strauss
There were a lack of sturdy pants for miners
Strauss was the first to use twilled cotton cloth from France called "serge de Nimes."
Ever since, blue jeans have been a staple in the wardrobe of millions
Being in the crossfire of negative publicity has made an impact on the profits of the company
This year, Abercrombie & Fitch stocks are down 25%

On December 14, 2010, the Bangledesh facotory That's It Sportswear experienced an electrically caused fire that caused the death of 29 workers. This factory supplied Abercrombie & Fitch, along with several US and European brands.
Since 2005, over 700 workers have died in factory fires in Bangledesh
Ever since, A&F has had stricter safety policies for all of their factories
