* Led some of the first cattle drives
*Developed the Santa Gertrudis and Santa Cruz breeds of cattle by breeding the Brahams (bulls) and the shorthorns.
* Bred the most superb quarter horses
*Produced champion thoroughbreds
these achievements helped our agriculture greatly.

This is Richard King
Richard King saw a town suffering from a drought in south Texas and northern Mexico. He went there and profited from them by taking all their cattle. When he was leaving, he realized that he could employ all these poor mexicans and solve both of their problems.
Most of the towns people agreed and they became known as kinenos.
"Kinenos" means king's men.
Kinenos were Mexicans who worked on the ranch, farming and ranching.

How many people in this class has ever been hunting? Its basically just waiting out in the woods there are rarely any animals right? It takes a lot of patience to hunt because others have hunted too. King ranch was the birthplace of wildlife conservation, so you basically have them to thank for being able to hunt.
They put up the wildlife conservation to help the animals and to keep people from hunting their animals inside their land

How King Ranch impacted our southern way of life
neiack!!!!
King ranch has been able to change our science and agriculture for the better and that has helped us greatly. The Southerners at the time saw how profitable farming and cattle driving made King ranch so they started farming too. Lots of Southerns were farming and ranching, but most of the ranches couldn't make that much of a profit, or were destroyed by natural disasters. Since there were so many people in Texas who were farming and ranching, Texas began to have the stero-type of all cowboys and cowgirls and 1000 gallon hats. -.-
During the 1800's and 1900's Kings Ranch were facing financial problems. In 1919 they had found a solution! They signed a lease with Humble Oil and Refining co. known today as Exxon. The company was hesitant because they didn't think that that area of Texas would have much oil, but Wallace E Pratt was able to convince the company to give them a try. In 1947 Humble was managing 390 producing oil wells, needless to say the ranch was saved from their financial crisis. In 1980 the ranch had more oil wells than all of Saudi Arabia!
