Mental Health is an integral part of health; indeed, there is no health without mental health

It is NOT the absence of disease
is a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community." WHO (2007)
People with Mental Illness are prone to violence
People with Mental Illness don't get better
Mental Illness can be overcome by positive attitude and self control.
Therapy is for people with Mental Illness
1 in every 5 Canadians will develop a mental illness in their lifetime
Mental Illness affects everybody-We all know someone with Mental Illness.
Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death in young adults
Mental Illness is like physical illness, it requires medical attention and support from network

70% of Mental Health Problems have their onset during childhood or adolescence
15-24 year olds are more likely to experience mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders than any other group
Men have higher rates of addiction, women have higher rates of mood and anxiety disorder

There is strong research showing that sleep and depression are linked
Treating the sleep disorder may help alleviate symptoms of the mental health problem.
May increase risk for developing particular mental illnesses, as well as result from such disorders.
More likely to affect patients with psychiatric disorders than people in the general population.
