Transcript of World War II

World War II:
Beginning and Ending After WWI ended in 1918 The U.S. came into a prosperous time known as the "roaring twenties" Germany had to pay reparations for all the damage they had done. This caused Germany to go into debt and embarassed many Germans. The U.S. helped Germany along with the rest of Europe rebuild itself. Then in 1929 on October 29th, the Stock Market Crashed.

Americans lost everything. Other nations that depended on the U.S. suffered as well. The 1930s became known as the Great Depression. U.S. farmers also suffered because there was a major drought. This caused the Dust Bowl to occur. None suffered as much as Germany did. Desperate for a solution, many Germans turned to Adolf Hitler. Supported by many, Hitler became the dictator of Germany. He blamed the Jews for everything. In the late 1930s Jews went from being registered to being sent off to concentration camps. Germany attacked Poland in 1939. Britain and France both had an alliance with Poland and each other so they declared war on Germany. The Soviet Union had a alliance with France so they joined the war too. Meanwhile back in the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt became president. Roosevelt created the New Deal and got America back on its feet. The U.S. stayed neutral until Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese in 1941. The U.S. declared war on Japan; Germany and Italy declared war on the U.S. Before the U.S. became involved the Allies were having trouble against the axis powers. France was taken over and Britain was next. After the U.S. joined the war went into the favor of the Allies. In 1945 Hitler commited suicide and Germany and Italy surrendered Japan kept on fighting for a couple months. Then in August the U.S. dropped two atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima after Japan failed to respond to the Allies about ending the war. The three ally leaders met at Yalta to discuss plans after the war. They discussed about dividing Germany among themselves.
