Cell Analogy: Movie Theaters

Cell Membrane
The cell membrane protects the cell along with what goes in and out of the cell
Ribosome
Makes protein for the cell
Cytoplasm
Stores raw material, provides support for structure, and separates organelles
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Passageway through cell that assembles lipids and proteins.
Nucleus
Contains DNA and controls the cell
RNA
Carries messages
DNA
Stores genetic information
Golgi Body
Package and ship protein out of the cell
Analogy
The cell membrane controls what goes in and out of the cell just as the ticket checker makes sure you paid for your movie
Nucleolus
Mitochondria
Vacuole
Lysosome
Cytoskeleton
Centriole
Makes ribosomes
Produces energy for the cell
Holds material in the cell together
Breaks down/digests materials
Helps the cell maintain its shape and is involved in cell movement
Reproduces cells
Analogy
The ribosome provides protein for the cell as the audience provides money for the theater
Cytoplasm separates organelles and stores material as a movie theater has different rooms for different movies
Endoplasmic reticulum assembles lipids and proteins as the concession stand assembles snacks for the audience
DNA stores genetic information as movie theaters store movies for viewing
RNA carries messages from the DNA as the screen of a movie theater displays the movie

Analogy
The Golgi body modifies, sorts, and packages protein as cashiers provide food and drinks as energy and send people off to their movie
Analogy
Analogy
The nucleus contains the DNA and controls the cell as the projector contains the movie and controls the movie
Nucleolus makes ribosomes as popcorn machines make popcorn

Analogy
Mitochondria produces energy for the cell as drinks and candy provide extra money for the movie theater
Analogy
Vacuoles store materials in the cell together as theaters provide seats to keep the audience together
Analogy
Lysosomes digest materials as the audience digests food and information from the movie
Analogy
Cytoskeletons help the cell maintain its shape as movie posters help movie theaters maintain its money
Centrioles reproduce cells as movie theaters are renovated to create more movie theaters
