Transcript of Question C: IE Application

? Nebraska is where I was born, where I was raised, and where I attended University - essentially where I spent the first 25 years of my life. Unlike most people from this area I realized very early on that I was not going to remain a Nebraskan forever. I had bigger things in mind - I wanted to see the world. Oddly, this desire made me somewhat of a Total Population: 1.8 Million
Famous for two things: corn and football Nebraska Where is Nebraska? Right in the center of the US I was hired by a top tier construction company, one of only five in Australia, which gave me the opportunity to live and work all over the country. I've lived in: What were the risks involved? I don't find a job. I can't get the sponsorship I require to work legally in the country. I run out of money. I can't find a place to live. I am forced to return home having "wasted" 6 months of my life and risk been seen as failing the challenge. What was the result? Queensland Tasmania and Melbourne From there I was able to progress my career. I now work for one of the largest and most successful engineering consultancies in the world and am seated to take on a management position. I've also developed a network of friends and colleagues from places around the world. These people have opened my eyes to cultures, ideas, and experiences which I never would have had exposure to had I stayed in Nebraska. What lies ahead? I plan to start my MBA within the next six months. With my role in a global organization with offices in 42 countries around the world I hope to take advantage of this position and secure a role overseas within the next 6-12 months. What got me through it all? DETERMINATION Some people refer to my decisions as risks. I prefer to call them OPPORTUNITIES THE DECISION... Some background After graduating with a degree in electrical engineering, having relatively no work experience I decided I was going to take my chances and move overseas to Australia. How one decision led to where I am today... First a bit of background Would I do it again? Absolutely *A black sheep is an idiom used to describe someone who deviates from the accepted standards. Given its location there is not a strong international influence and people tend not to travel to or from the area. In fact a vast majority of Nebraskans don't hold a US passport.
