Before partaking in a long journey the family will gather in silence in the sitting area and collect their thoughts before their loved ones depart.
By sitting quietly before a journey, it would ensure that you would return again.
Also goodbyes must be done inside the house, not over the threshold to ensure you have a safe trip.
Sit Before a Journey
Sitting on a table counts as bad luck in Russian culture.
It is believed that sitting
on a table could bring poverty or even death.
All of this comes from the belief that a table's purpose is to assist you in performing specific tasks.
Don’t Sit on a Table
Spilling salt counts as bad luck in Russian culture.
It is believed that spilled salt will bring conflict into the house.
In this type of situation it is common to throw a pinch of salt, over the left shoulder.
To blind the devil.

Whistling is forbidden in the house.
In Russian culture it is believed that when you are whistling inside your house, you are whistling your money away.
It is also implied to people who are visiting your house.

It is believed that taking it out at night could bring devastation on the house.
