Timeline for
Elective Showcase & Elementary visit to campus
Counselors go to Elementary School to discuss 6th grade registration
Rising 6th Grade Parent Night
Pre-AP Parent Info Night for 4th and 5th Grade Parents
Parent Panel Nights at each Elementary School (Panel includes Admin, 6th Grade Teacher(s), Counselor, Current 6th Grade Parent)

We were successful at "on-boarding" our incoming 6th graders, but we want to continue this support throughout the school year.

Campus Improvement Team - Subcommittee to explore the idea of a "Bridge Camp" for identified incoming 6th graders who need additional support
Middle School Panel that visits the Elementary Campus in the spring

Career and Technical Education Center (CTE Center) tour in December
High School Counselors come to Middle School campus to discuss course offerings and registration for high school
This year: High School Panel that presented to our 8th graders at the end of the 4th six weeks (February)

"The achievement drops we observe as students move to both the middle school and high schools suggest that moving from one school to another (or simply being in the youngest grade in a school) adversely affects student performance. The size and persistence of the effect of entering a middle school, however, suggest that such transitions are particularly damaging for adolescent students…" (West & Schwerdt, 2012, p. 3).

The "things that make it especially difficult moving from grade five to grade six is that students go from a self-contained, supportive atmosphere where they have one teacher they know…to sixth grade and they are confronted with seven different (teachers’) personalities. They don’t know how to handle it” (Tamer, 2012, p. 6).
