Florian: Florian is a clever boy and tries to find an easy way out of everything.
Emilia: Emilia is a shy girl who sees the best in everybody.
Joana: Joana is a smart and outgoing girl who wants to help everyone.
Alfred: Alfred is a timid man who will do anything for his country.
Setting and Genre
Salt to the Sea
took place during World War II in Europe. Due to the setting and the book being about the war, the genre is historical fiction.
Rising and Falling Actions
The rising action in the novel was when all of the characters made it onto the
and they were on board. This is the rising action because when they were on the boat, people started talking about subs that were torpedoing other ships. The falling action was when some of the characters saw a light from another ship and the people on board helped them off of their rescue boats.
The theme of the book is never lose hope because something good will happen.
The climax in the story was when all of the main characters heard a loud bang and the lights went out on the ship. This was the climax because the ship had been torpedoed.
