Charles de Gaulle,

*Il est un militaire, résistant, homme d'État, écrivain français, et chef de la France libre.
was born 22 November 1890 and died 9 November 1970.
He was a French general, resistant, writer, statesman, and the leader of Free France.
*Il devient le 18e Président de la République française du 1959 au 1969.
In 1958, He was elected as the 18th President of France, until his resignation in 1969.
During the second World War, the french government, led by Petain, worked out a deal with Germany to avoid further bloodshed.
*Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, le gouvernement français, dirigé par Pétain, travaillé à un accord avec l'Allemagne pour éviter de nouvelles effusions de sang.
De Gaulle did not accept France's surrender to Germany in 1940. He instead fled to England, where he became a leader of the Free French movement, with the support of British prime minister Winston Churchill.
*De Gaulle n'a pas accepté la capitulation de la France à l'Allemagne en 1940. Il a fui la place en Angleterre, où il est devenu un chef de file du mouvement des Français Libres, avec le soutien du Premier ministre britannique Winston Churchill.

From London, de Gaulle broadcast a message to the french people, calling for them to resist the German occupation.

He states that the defeat and the low morale of the French and the French government was caused by a superior mechanical force which the Germans were able to use against France, this lead to capitulation which was chosen by Petain's government. De Gaulle and his companions believe that the honour of France rests with them alongside the Allies who will be victorious.

De Gaulle moved his headquarters to Algiers in May 1943. He left Britain to be on French territory.

In Algeria in 1943, Eisenhower gave de Gaulle the assurance that a French force would liberate Paris.

France fielded an entire army. The French First Army helped to liberate almost one third of the country and participated in the invasion of Germany. As the invasion progressed, de Gaulle made preparations to return to France.
