Ventricular systole DIASTOLE Diastole is when the heart relaxes.
In particular, when the atria and ventricles relax. When this happens, the atria fills with blood The semilunar valves in the arteries close as the arterial blood pushes against them. When the valves shut, this makes a sound and this is what you hear as your 'heart beat' Diastole Atrial Systole Systole? Systole is the contraction of the heart. Atrial Systole is when the right atrium fills with blood from both of the vena cava - inferior and superior - and when the left atrium fills with blood from the pulmonary veins. The atria then contract, which creates a wallop of pressure, forcing blood through the atrioventricular (AV) valves and into the ventricles. Diastole The contraction of the cardiac ventricles where the blood is then forced in to either the aorta or pulmonary artery depending on which side of the heart. Usually as the ventricles undergo ventricular systole, the atria will be relaxing and the ventricles contract which leads to decreasing their volume yet increasing their pressure within the ventricles than in the atria as well as the aorta or pulmonary artery depending on the side of the heart.
