There job is to interest retail purchasing agents (buyers) into buying the fashion being created by company they are employed for this could include selling clothing garments, shoes or accessories

The buyer in a company is responsible for purchasing products to resell in stores. Other responsibilities of a buyer would include
research the merchandise,
negotiating price of products,
insure orders are delivered.
It is important for a buyer to build good relatio

ships with people not only to get great products but get them at the right price.A buyer is ultimately
accountable for selecting merchandise the consumer will buy and making a profit for the company they work for.

Depending on the size of the company may specific. In larger companies they will typically specialize in one type of merchandise for example women’s dresses or blouses. In a smaller company a buyer may be less specialized for example they would buy for women’s casual wear which would include shirts, pants, jackets etc. Other job possibilities in a buyer’s direction could be an allocations manager. An allocations manager makes sure that each store receives the proper amount of goods. The other possibility is a purchasing manager which buys products and parts that are used within the store.
To become a buyer you must have retail experience. It will give a sense of how the industry works. There must be a sense of retail and product trends. Working in retail will help in knowing this because you work directly with the customer. Other skill needed include analytical; to be able to forecast future trends to make good buys, computer and knowledge of resource planning and forecasting. It’s a MUST for a person to have creativity, enthusiasm and decisiveness for the job. Being able to work under pressure

The more you know about the industry, the better prepared you will be and have more advantages. Getting a degree in Fashion Merchandising is a plus in the career is recommended.

Get into any level of the fashion industry and work your way up.

It is important to always keep your next move in mind. You may not start of doing glamorous work and it may be task that has nothing to do with the industry but you have to look at the bigger picture. Appreciate where you are but also know where you want to go next and make sure you are working toward that goal.
