INTRODUCTION
Sport Rim and Wheel are they the same thing?
Sport Rim : used as a way to upgrade the appearance of vehicles.
Sport rim gives the vehicle a sleek and sporty look

Why Forged?

Are the best for high performance cars
The rims bring a combination of performance and aesthetics
Are light, free of porosity and cavities, which means lower weight and higher safety
Offer a great surface variety due to the combination of polished, shot-blasted and forged surfaces.
This process results in an extremely strong and durable wheel.

OBJECTIVE

To study sport rim in term of manufacturing process-Forging Process

To analyze : based on Thermodynamic and Heat transfer

To discuss : Requirement of Measurement and Instrumentation

To Plan, design and draw a sport rim

MEMBERS :
MANUFACTURING PROCESS
Forging
The manufacturing line for forged production rim : Hot forging, Cold spinning, Heat treatment , Machine work, and Surface finishing.

A form of hot forging is isothermal forging, where materials and dies are heated to the same temperature
ENGINEERING DESIGN
In order to design this project, we have used computer technology such as Computer Aided Design(CAD) and combining with Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) and Autodesk inventor
2. COLD SPINNING
Aluminum sheet metal is cut using shearing
machine then:
Undergoes rolling machine: get circular shape
Go through a flash removing machine
Create a flab shape
Make shape for a tires: turning machine
Expand the circular base: constant heat
Cooled the wheel
Weld 2 part using automatic welding
machine
3. HEAT TREATMENT
MACHINING

A turning process using Computer Numerical Control(CNC)
A bolt patterning process on the rim is done using a milling machine with a right diameter.
Then the flashes is carefully remove by handwork to make the surface is smooth.
During alignment test the wheel roundness is carefully check with indicator balanced
wheel is check using Eddy-current testing

5. SURFACE FINISHING


Chromatic film are applied to surface to prevent and protect aluminum surface from corrosion.

The comprehensive study were better with the integrated project as we are able to put our thoughts from the book into designing a sport rim.

The wall of a furnace comprises three layers as shown in the figure.

Forging furnace :device use preheating billet
The first layer is refractory (whose maximum allowable temperature is 1400°C) while the second layer is insulation (whose maximum allowable temperature is 1093°C). The third layer is a plate of 6.35 mm thickness of steel [thermal conductivity = 45 W/(m K)]. Assume the layers to be in very good thermal contact.

For heat transfer by conduction a cross flat wall, the heat transfer is expressed by following equation ;

This makes the rims durable.

*Obtained stronger and lighter rims

With lighter rims: -help in faster braking
-reduce your vehicle’s tires wear and tear
-translate to increased acceleration

Forged wheels feature excellent mechanical properties (ductility, yield strength, and toughness).
