Slaves had limited clothing and were usually supplied with two suits one pair of shoes and one blanket, but it varied depending on what owners were willing to pay for.The material was usually very coarse and uncomfortable flax.
What
did slaves eat?
Their main diet was made up of cornbread and pork, but they were given corn meal, lard, greens, and flour on saturdays to prepare meals for the rest of the week. This was not a lot of food, and it did not appeal to most people but was all they had so they made it work.

They did not live a rough life, they had decent food and had nice plantation houses to live in. Additionally, they most likely had a house slave that took care of children and did the housework.

Slaves and their Owners
How
was slaves everyday life?
They worked on the fields
farming tobacco and
sometimes cotton for long,
hard hours every day. They
did this for either the
majority of their lives or
until they made the decision to escape and the
turnout was successful.
They did not think poorly about the slaves but did not think highly of them either. Here is a quote from a plantation owner, " The slaves do not get paid so as long my land is good and the slaves work I will make a profit." This quote describes an actual plantation owners thoughts about the slaves and as seem they did not care for the slaves as much as they could of.
Most plantation owners copied the styles of the wealthy englishmen. They wore doublets which are short jackets that were usually rolled up to show off their shirts and breeches which were a popular type of padded pants.
