A BROKEN BULB 1) Do not vacuum up the glass! Doing this could spread and vaporize the mercury.
2) Ventilate the room. Have all people and pets leave the room and then air it out by opening a window or door for 5-10 minutes to let in the fresh air.
3) Using stiff paper or cardboard, carefully scoop up the broken glass.
4) Use sticky tape to pick up smaller pieces. Place in a sealable plastic bag.
5) Wipe down the area with a damp paper towel, and put them in the bag.

By putting CFLs in your trash bin at home, you are polluting and affecting the environment. Also, when a CFL breaks, the mercury vapours escape, thus polluting the environment. CFLs do contain a small amount of mercury in them. That meaning that you should handle and dispose of them correctly, as you do not want to be dumping toxins into your trash. To maximize their environmental benefit it is important that CFLs are recycled and do not end up in the landfill. Many large retailers such as the Home Depot have a collection box in their stores. Also frequent on and off cycling can increase the life of CFLs. -CFL bulbs contain a mixture of
gases and mercury in them
-CFLs cannot be disposed of in
landfills since mercury is toxic.

1) Never throw burned out CFLs in ordinary waste. This is a sure way to contaminate the enviroment.
2) Collect burned out CFLs and take them to a recycling or a hazardous disposable waste facility.
3) Find a disposal place near you. The Disposal of a CFL In my opinion, I think the town should choose to go with the CFL bulb because the CFL uses much less energy than the incandescent bulb and is better for the environment. It also lasts up to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs. The CFL bulb does cost more however and contains mercury which can be very bad for the environment if dropped. If the town does dispose of the bulb properly than there will be no problems. The costs of CFLs can be
minimized by safely disposing
