one of the most important ways of celebrating Christmas in Italy is the nativity crib scene.

on Christmas eve it's common that no meat (and some times no dairy ) is eaten. Often a light sea food meal is eaten. afterward people go to midnight mass service. The types of fish and how they are served depends on the different regions of Italy.
santa in italy is called babbo natale.

approx. 12 oz of plain flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 oz of fresh yeast
2 oz caster sugar
4 table spoons of warm water or milk
3 eggs 1/4 teaspoons vanilla essence 2 tsp finely grated lemon rind
4 oz of sofened butter 3oz of sultzanas 11/2 oz of chopped nuts 1 oz of melted butter
