Rapa Nui (Easter Island)
Transcript of Rapa Nui (Easter Island)
Rapa Nui is located in the Southeastern Pacific ocean and is apart of Chile. Between Tahiti and South America, it is a Polynesian island and a province of the Valparaiso region.
Scientist have many theories about how the statues were moved. Currently, their theory is that 3 groups of Rapa Nui people with ten in each group would tie the rope to a statues head and then pull it in a specific order to make the statue walk. And to make it easier they would probably have made muddy roads to get to the area. Some of the Rapa Nui natives say the Moai (the statues) were moved by the gods, and so they offered sacrifices to the statues to earn favor with the gods.
Alien Theory/ Rumor
Some people believe that the Easter Island statues were transported to the island by aliens in spaceships. Part of the rumor is that the aliens left just before the first explorers landed on the island.
This is a video of how scientists think the people of Rapa Nui pulled the Moai statues into position.

Easter Island covers about 63 square miles. Easter Island has many natural resources, like fuel and food which, now, people depend on Chile for some of those resources.

Rapa Nui is known for...
Rapa Nui has many statues that people call Moai statues. They are about 4 to 33 feet tall and they weigh more than 80 tons!
No one really knows for sure but here are some possibilities. Each statue could represent one of their gods. Another purpose might be that the statues are protecting the island. A final option is that may be there to honor the Rapa Nui ancestors.
Not much is known of the people of Easter Island, but we do know that they did exist because of old settlements left in the ground.
