Transcript of Cell Organelles- structure and function

Cell Organelles- Mrs. Reyes
structure
:
membrane that surrounds plant and animal cells.
function
:
"traffic cop" controls what enters and exits cell.
plant and animal cells
structure: often in center of cell. bound by a membrane (skin).
function: "BRAIN" of cell. Contains DNA. CONTROL CENTER.
STRUCTURE: "Jelly-like substance". mostly water.
FUNCTION: Holds Organelles in place.
VACUOLE
STRUCTURE: storage bubble or sack. one large one in plant cells and several small ones in animal cells.

FUNCTION: "Storage" of food, water, waste.
"warehouse".
plant cell has one large one and animal cells have smaller ones.
STRUCTURE: Membrane that surrounds only Plant cells.
FUNCTION: Provides support, shape of cell, and protection.
cell wall
Mitochondrion or Mitochondria:
Structure: shaped like a football or peanut with squiggly line inside.
Function: "powerhouse" of cell. creates "ENERGY".
plant and animal cells
Chloroplast:
Structure: only in plant cells. green. contain chlorophyll. shaped like football with circles inside.
Function: "photosynthesis"occurs here to make "GLUCOSE" or sugar.
Ribosomes:
Structure
: tiny, round organelles that float in cytoplasm.
Function:
makes "
protein"
Endoplasmic Reticulum

(ER)
Structure:
white, maze-like organelle. surrounds nucleus.
Function
:PACKAGES food and
other stuff in cell.

Golgi Apparatus (body):
structure: stacks of saucer like membranes
function: works with E.R. (endoplasmic reticulum) to transport materials.

Cell Theory

1. All known living things are made up of cells.
2. The cell is structural & functional unit of all living things.
3. All cells come from pre-existing cells by division. (Spontaneous Generation does not occur).
4. Cells contains hereditary information which is passed from
cell to cell during cell division.
5. All cells are basically the same in chemical composition.

Remember, cells make up all living things.
All cells have most of the same organelles. Plant cells have a cell wall, a large vacuole, and a squarish shape.
The End
Remember, an ORGANELLE are the small parts that make up a cell.
Function: "security guard" that eats germs and other harmful bacteria.
structure: small circles in cytoplasm that are larger than ribosomes.
lysosome
plant cell only
1. write organelle
2. write structure and function
3. draw picture w/ color
4. check plant and animal.
5. analogy will be done thursday......
