A study of
Christian Living, Spiritual Death
& Sound Teaching for Today's Believer
- i can do this at my house
- we are influenced by our surroundings
- try setting on a 2 legged stool
- the church imposes rules
- don't tell me how to raise my family...live my life
- look what has happened to the family
- God's word has guidelines...moral rules
- Length of study
- 18-26 lessons
- Short video clips
- Other study aids
- Purpose of Study
- Self measurement of growth through critical thinking
Shelf Life vs. Life Expectancy
- death can be seen in both if examined
II Corinthians 13:5 - examine yourselves...
- take inventory, inspect, improve, etc...
I Corinthians 3:11-19 - our work will be judged (examined)
I John 2:15-17
- sometimes we think "both" are possible
God is too small
mcgee what is sin
God is too small
- Walking worthy of our vocation
- Obedience is better than...
- to him that knoweth...it is SIN
James 1:22 Be ye a doer...
-Simply put: He wants us to Love Him... a doer of God is a Lover of God
Think of a family
Find a person who:
- Has passion for Christ
- Will abide with Christ
- Who commits themselves to Christ
You will then find a person who is a doer of the word of God and not just a hearer only.
mcgee attend church
mcgee on witnessing and praying for sinners...are we doing it?
- To some Christ is too small
- " The big people are coming"
He's big enough for our salvation and trials
- words of eternal life
- still the waves
He should be big enough for our loyalty & service
- take up thy cross and follow...
- go ye therefore and teach...
rogers on real faith
rogers on worship
if he is not this big he wants to be
Being a doer
- not doing what you're suppose to do is evidence of spiritual death.
The Parents, The Spouse, The Children
--- NATURAL LOVE SHOULD EXIST---
Live for Him!
By seeking to glorify Him
- Holy & Separate Life
- Telling others about Him
don't get the cart
before the horse
Frequent absences from church
- provoke one another
- milk alone is for the unskilled
- meat for the exercised
- it's boring, repetitive, and predictable
- so is life...schedules, duties, seasons
- we must work to find joy in life...and we do
- church is for worship, friendship, and growth
- it's full of hypocrites
- going to church does not make a better person
- being connected with God does
- a christian is easy to spot...try to identify the average hypocrite
sharper than any two edged sword
prayed for self and servants
Why a wall?

Church leaders protect the church from wolves in sheep clothing

They guard our walls

Loving Church Work
- "church" work is people work
- II Thes. 1:1-4
- I Thes. 2:18-20
eternal v temporal
treasures in heaven
- where your heart is...
- What we value is what we do
- Eternal value verses temporal value
Loving "People" Work
The Clear Process
forgiveness then service
David proclaimed he would serve
The Wrong Way
The Jews wanted it their way
If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.
John Quincy Adams
I destroy my enemies when I make them my friends.
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
Guarding the heart/soul is the great work that God has assigned us.
He enables us, but the duty is ours
imagination, understanding, will, conscience, affections, mind, the whole
clear of guilt
from being inordinate
from being used of Satan
Exercise watchful jealously over our heart
Mindful of its proneness to temptations
All avenues of the heart should be guarded
- vain thoughts and imaginations
Set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth.
is the world gaining a firm or fuller hold on us?
are the things of the world losing their charm?
Examples of keeping the heart
is not enough
must be put away too
is not enough
- the inward
must be mortified
He weigheth the spirits
Many people place great expectations in varied circumstances and conditions. One thinks he could serve God much better if he were more prospered temporally; another if he passed through the refining effects of poverty and affliction. One thinks his spirituality would be promoted if he could be more retired and solitary; another if only he could have more society and Christian fellowship. But, my reader, the only way to serve God better is to be content with the place in which He has put you, and therein get a better heart! We shall never enter into the advantages of any situation, nor overcome the disadvantages of any condition, until we fix and water the root of them in ourselves." Make the tree good, and the fruit good" (Matt. 12:33): get the heart right, and you will soon be superior unto all "circumstances."

II Timothy 3:1-9
lovers of pleasure more than God
only a form of godliness
no knowledge of the truth
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.
I Timothy 6:1-8
the home run idea
where is the gain at?
few things in life are equalizers
- verse 7 is one of those
In other words...
the duty within verse 8
Notice the essence
II Timothy 3 I Timothy 6
Both chapters speak of various and specific issues
Some good Some Bad
However note the principle or the essence of each.
I Timothy 6:8
What is the essence or principle?
John 14:15, 21, & 23
John 15:4 - Abide in me
Ravi on meaninglessness
If we cherish the first vain imagination as it enters the mind, it will soon grow into a powerful lust which will not take a nay.
What about a healthy imagination?
All things begin in the mind before they become reality.
All original thoughts that became reality
Necessity is the mother of invention.
Smart people consider a complex problem, break it down into smaller parts, and solve the problem.
The Power of Imagination
Imagination allows for a clear perspective of reality
Consider a bird
What is the purpose of a bird?
we see its beauty
we hear its song
we see its purpose in the live cycle
OUR LIFE HAS A DESIGNED PURPOSE
Imagination builds excitement, courage, and inspiration that fear cannot conquer.
Courage to begin
Inspiration to continue
Excitement to complete
1 Chronicles 28:9 I John4:1
Does the story of the cross still move you?
The Cross & The Cradle
"the more carnal a person is, the more they will make of his birth; the less they will make of His death"
The Story of The Cross
The Cross Should...
move our thoughts towards Christ
move our actions to reflect His work
make our hope Christ centered
Move toward Christ...not toward self
self centered society
Why such the effort?
Because God hates sin
Because God loves mankind
Because He was made a curse
The Cross is the very centerpiece of who we are.

Nothing more can be done, added, or taken away from the finished work.
Religion denies the efficiency of Jesus work.

What do we know about love and the abundant life
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
The Abundant Life
What abundance is not
Great material gain
Many followers suffered greatly and did not have material things
Fame or popularity
Abundant life is not about what we have. It’s not about what we get. It’s not about what we claim. Ultimately, abundant life is about what we receive as a gift from the Lord and to live knowing we are stewards of the blessings of God.

What the abundant life is
Sharing our life with others
John Chapter 3
What the abundant life is
- choices will give us abundance or scarcity
- consider your career choice
- consider your choice with God
- to serve
- to sacrifice
- to honor
The Story of Love
The choice of what we love determines where our abundance is

Some are for limited exposure
Some are totally against its presence

Being Lost is a fact
all have sinned
We do absolutely nothing to be lost, we are born this way.

What causes us to be lost?
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned
