Ministry of Digital Economy and Society
The ICT Ministry will be changed to the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, which will add digital economy development to its missions and responsibilities. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society will comprise five organizations under its jurisdiction, namely the Office of the Minister, the Office of the Permanent Secretary, the Office of Digital Economy, the Meteorological Department, and the National Statistical Office. The Office of Digital Economy, in particular, will serve as the secretariat of the National Committee for Digital Economy and Society and the five specific committees.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said that the Government was ready to promote the digital economy in order to modernize the country for the benefit of all aspects of the Thai economy. He explained that the digital system was playing an increasingly important role in the people’s daily life. Digital technologies enable people all over the world to connect without borders and to have easier and quicker access to information through the Internet.
