Records show that witches and wizards in Europe have been flying on brooms as soon as 1107, though the medieval brooms were quite crude.
The first recoreded game of quidditch was first recorded by a woman who didn't even know what she was seeing. She was simply annoyed by the boys that were dropping medieval quaffles in her yard.
After that quidditch was not mentioned until nearly a century later, when the game had been much more clear in its rules. They had medieval Bludgers and Quaffles and had barrels on stilts for goals. However, the Golden Snitch had still not been intrduced.
The Golden Snitch was first introduced in the thirteenth century. Before the Golden Snitch, people would go Snidget hunting. Golden Snidgets were very common in Europe and many people would hunt them because of the challenge. They were small birds that were extremely fast and difficult to catch.
Snidgets first crossed paths with Quidditch in 1269 when the chief of the wizards council released a snidget during a quidditch game and offered a prize to the winner. Eventually the Golden Snidget was turned into the Golden Snitch, and it is said to be the moment Quidditch truly began.
quidditch through the ages
Current Quidditch.
Quidditch is currently one of the most pular games in the wizarding world. The game is played on broomsticks in the air above a field with three goal posts of varying heights on each end. There are 7 players on a team; the keeper, three chasers, two beaters, and the seeker.

The keeper prevents the chasers from throwing a quaffle through the goals.
The chasers try to get a quaffle across the field to the other teams goal.
The beaters prevent the bludgers from flying into the other players.
And the seeker searches for, and tries to catch, the golden snitch.
Every witch and wizard has their own unique wand. The wood the wand is made of, the flexibility, the core, and the length all depend on the owner of the wand.
Most of the wands at Hogwarts were made by Mr. Ollivander at Ollivander's wand shop, and he has made a lot of discoveries about wands.
Only a minority of trees can produce magical wands, and they all seem to have different properties. The personality of a person affects all of the properties of the wands.
However, arguably the most important part of the wand is the wand core. Ollivander only uses the three finest wand cores he can find; dragon heartstring, unicorn tail, and Phoenix tail feather. These all produce the most powerful amount of magic.
Wands are the magical core of witches and wizards, and their wand will learn just as much from them as the wizards learn from the wand.
The Houses
The Hogwarts school is separated into four houses; Gryffindor - the brave, Ravenclaw - the intelligent, Hufflepuff - the kind, and Slytherin - the cunning.
Your house becomes your family as you go through your seven years at Hogwarts. You go to classes together and cheer you house on in sports games.
Fun Facts
Jo Rowling's pen name is J.K. Rowling, the "K" is for Kathleen after her grandmother, because her publisher thought that if boys saw that the author was a female, they wouldn't want to read the books.
Only Alan Rickman, the actor who played Professor Snape, knew his character’s fate before the release of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” because Rowling told him.
In order to become acquainted with the films’ three main stars, director Alfonso Cuaron had each of them write an essay about their characters. True to their characters, Emma Watson wrote a 16-page essay, Daniel Radcliffe wrote a simple, one-page paper, and Rupert Grint never even turned his in.
One of the flying cars used in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” was stolen off the set. It was discovered seven months later when an anonymous caller informed police of its whereabouts.
