Transcript of Homeschool Presentation for BCS Board

2012-13 We offer a hybrid homeschool program, which allows our families to experience the best of both worlds: to homeschool their student and still be a part of a larger school community. The Hybrid Model We offer enrichment classes on Mondays and Wednesdays. Our classes are divided in 3 groups: the K-1 group, the 2-4 group and the 5+ group. Each group attends classes throughout our day, which starts at 8:30 am with a study hall and ends at 3:00. Enrichment Classes All of our teachers are fully credentialed and are teaching on one of the two enrichment days. They are also assigned students whom they supervise and support. We follow the state standards and provide our families with standards-aligned, homeschool-friendly curriculum. Our Supervising Teachers We currently serve 71 students. Out of that, we have 25 K-1 students, 27 2-4 students and 25 5-8 students. Our students chose to homeschool for various reasons: the traditional classroom did not serve them well, they want to instill their own values, they have students who need extra support, students who work on an advanced level, etc. Student Population We meet with our families at least once every 20 school days for a portfolio review and discussion of the school work. We also create a learning plan for our families for the next learning period. In addition, our students participate in all state-mandated testing. We make sure that we comply with all independent study and Ed code laws that apply to IS and Charter Schools. Testing and Compliance We use a variety of curricula for our students. After we find out the best fit for our student's learning style, we match our student with a standards-based, homeschool-friendly curriculum. We don't believe that "one size fits all" and offer a myriad of choices. We make sure that all curriculum used is secular. We have a stipend for each student, which allows us to purchase curriculum. Our Curriculum -We offer personalized learning
-We have amazing teachers
-Our hybrid program appeals to families
-We extend "whole child" into our program
-We practice NVC
-We make all our families feel welcome and valued What makes us special? BRIDGES Homeschool
