The horizontal strokes gives the painting space.
Warm and cool colours were used in the painting.
The sky was painted in a cross hatched pattern while the sea was painted with strokes horizontally only.
The main focus of the artwork is coloured brighter than the rest, showing its importance in the painting.
There was a relaxing and romantic atmosphere.
Evoking the feeling of wonder in the vast sky, with the bright yellow stars contrasting with the dark blue background.
It was at night when the painting was painted.
The painting was painted over the rhone(At Arles, near its mouth on the Mediterranean Sea, the river divides into two branches, known as the Great Rhône)
The reflection of the gas lighting's was the most realistic amongst the other parts of the painting.
Although this painting wasn't that recognised, as compared to Starry Starry Night, Sunflowers and The Bedroom, but it was different as this was his
first
landscape painting to contain people.
As he was mentally ill, others might see it as a product of his insanity.
Unique style of oil painting. short, choppy brushed strokes, blending of colour.
