Neurofibromatosis Causes Symptoms/Effects Treatment/Cure Sources: Pain Blindness Plexiform Neurofibromas Nodular Neurofibromas Convulsions Pain from affected nerves Genetic Disorder of the nervous system Primarily affects the growth of neural cell tissues In most cases people with NF can live normal functioning lives, but in some cases it can be extremely debilitating. In some cases damage can be done to vital structures. If this damage is on the cranial nerve or brain stem, it can be life threatening. Symptoms/Effects Type one (NF1): skin changes and deformed bones. Blindness. Usually starts at birth. Type Dos (NF2): hearing loss, ringing in the ears, and poor balance. Often starts in the teen years. Type trois (Schwannomatosis): Intense pain. It is the rarest type. Tumors can grow in visible places and areas that cause medical issues – these types usually are removed, but they can just grow right back again.
Most symptoms worsen over time.
