Heroism The unlikely hero Dobby Kreacher Oskar Schindler One has no capacity for heroism in the absence of challenge Challenge allows a person to accept or reject their call to battle for what can be deemed right or just. By Maddie Cox Schindler's list Harry Potter DEFINING A HERO 1. A man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.
2. A person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal: He was a local hero when he saved the drowning child. Overcoming Challenges and Obstacles
A hero's goals Challenges of Oskar Schindler Challenges of Kreacher Challenges of Dobby Overcoming adversity after suspicions of him being a sympathizer of the Jewish people arose.
Gaining the trust of Itzhak Stern; without whom he would never have been able to save the Schindler Jews.
Hiding his true intentions from Amon Goeth and the rest of the Nazi soldiers and sympathizers.
Giving up his wealth; the thing he has strived to get all his life in order to save 1100 jewish people. Overcoming adversity due to being a house elve (believed to be a lower being by most wizarding families.
Learning to trust Harry and his friends.
Accepting to continue the fight his master had started. Overcoming adversity due to being a house elf (believed to be a lower being by most wizarding families).
Disobeying his masters in order to protect Harry Potter.
Standing up for himself in order to get better rights as an elf (be paid instead of a slave).

His dealings with the Lestranges lead to the death of one of the good guys. Due to wizards believing elves to be inferior no one would have thought he would rise up and fight for the cause.
In the second movie he tries to stop harry from returning to hogwarts and saving the school as he believes harry will be in great danger and possibly even be killed.

Spies for the lestranges --> leads to the death of Sirius
Forces himself to watch the death of his master and friend; R.A. Black and then leave in order to protect his secret betrayal of Voldermort.
Turns his life around when Harry treats him humanely and once he sees he can make a difference to the war. Begins cleaning the house of Black and cooking foe harry and his friends.
Fights against hundreds of evil wizards to save the wizarding world
Leads the house elves in the final battle of Hogwarts Nazi sympathizer at start
Profiteer of slave labour of the Jews.
Cheats on his wife several times.
Turns good after seeing the mistreatment of the Jews at the concentration camp.
Saves many lives despite not having believable reasons as to why he hired them when there were people better suited for the job.
Saviour of 1100 innocent Jews including children, Parents and grandparents
Gives up his wealth for the good of the Jews, risks being seen as corrupt in order to save them.
Spends time in jail for showing he believed in equality between races by kissing a Jewish worker Goes against his master's will to save Harry --> has to punish himself greatly.
Stands between Harry and his master in order to protect Harry from being killed by him when Harry frees Dobby to stop him from being unjustly punished.
fights for elf rights --> asks for pay if he is to work.
Apparates sick and injured from malfoy manor, returns to apparate harry, ron and hermione out only to have a knife land in his chest and die.
His dying words were "Such a beautiful place, Dobby is happy to be here... with his friends." Dobby Unknowingly defeats the bad guy as an infant
Targeted all his life by bad guy and his followers
Born to die according to prophecy and headmaster
No choice Harry Born a Hero
Versus
Made a Hero Understanding of what will happen if the bad guys win makes him want to join the fight
Sacrifice for someone he loves
Protecting people out of hope that no one will have to die like his master again. Kreacher "The house-elves of Hogwarts swarmed into the entrance hall, screaming
