Welcome to New York
The New York Colony called New Amsterdam, founded by Peter Miniut in 1626 on Manhattan Island. In 1664 the Dutch surrendered the Colony to the English and it was renamed New York after the Duke of York.
European settlement began on Septtember 2, 1609, when the Englishmen Henry Hudson in the employ of Dutch East India Company sailed the half moon through the narrows into the half moon into the upper New York Bay like Columbus Hudson was looking for a westerly passage to Asia.
Indians who lived in the Hudson Valley and they spoke Munsee and Macahian (both Caster and Algonquian languages) called the Mohawk Indians.

It was mainly agricultural for much of the 1600s' with produce from large estates being traded colonists made their living in variety of ways: Furtrapping , lumber, trading, shipping the slave trade and as merchants and trademen in the colonies towns.
Types of Religion:
Different religions could be found in the New York colony such as Quaker, Luthrean, Anglican, Catholic and judaism.
As part of New Netherland and the colony was important in the fur trade and eventually became and agricultural resource thanks to the Dutch who bought the Island of Manhattan from Native Americans.
Why settle in New York?:
There are many natural resources such as good farm land timber, fur and coal especially iron ore.
New York was governed as a royal colony (you could be born into the royal government).
