What Kinds of Effects Does Makeup Have On Our Society Today?
Effects on Society Today
The Truth Behind Makeup
Makeup. A revolutionary tool used by women and even men today to either transform, enhance, or hide one's appearance. But the question that's on everyone's mind is can makeup make or break someone? The answer to that is yes and no. But in today's society makeup can completely transform a person and give them the confidence and self-esteem they need to succeed. Studies have shown that makeup actually get women the certain jobs that they want because people automatically see a beautiful woman as intelligent and powerful.
The teenage population today is more known to have a lower self-esteem than a higher one because of the various ads they see on T.V. and in magazines. Most of these ads are very much unrealistic, thus causing teenagers to have unrealistic expectations of what society says they should strive to look like. Things have changed dramatically as our society has grown. More and more makeup products and brands have been created since the 1900's and are still continuing to grow. Teenagers believe that if they don't purchase the latest makeup craze that they won't be accepted by our society.
The controversy with makeup has been an ongoing problem for years now. Although the main purpose for makeup is to genuinely enhance ones beauty, others find that it is harmful to us and animals. Sadly animal testing is still going on in the U.S. today but it has improved slightly from what it used to be. There are activists that live to stop this cruelty and controversy. But this testing makes makeup seem like the bad guy which its not.
Makeup was created to enhance beauty in women and embrace their natural given features, not to hide them. Let's take the Barbie doll for example. She's perfect. This is an actual picture of what Barbie looks like without makeup and the truth is shocking. Even though she has makeup on on the right it just really goes to show what society thinks women and young females should strive to look like.
The History Behind Makeup
Ancient Egyptians created the world's first cosmetics using ingredients such as lead and copper. Throughout the centuries, women used various items to enhance their beauty. For example, they would use burnt matches to darken their eyes, berries to stain their lips or urine to fade their freckles. Some even drank Ox blood in some misguided attempt to improve their complexions. Women throughout history put their health at risk with many of their homemade cosmetics. During the 18th century, for example, a rise of medical complications appeared. Tooth decay, adverse skin conditions and poisoning were often caused by dangerous makeup. In some cultures, women used arsenic, lead, mercury and even leeches to give themselves the pale appearance deemed to be beautiful in that era.
Conclusion
So in a nut shell makeup is a very important and significant tool in our history and in today's society. It has grown over the years and various types of styles have come and gone. Even though there are pros and cons to makeup, the overall significance of this magnificent creation is amazing. It can completely transform a person, enhance ones beauty, and even be used in the form of art. The main purpose of makeup is to enhance and highlight people's God given appearance and even make them more confident along the way. Makeup is an art form and will continue to grow as our society progresses. So the question that lies is what kind of effect does makeup have on our society today? The overall effect is a positive one but there are some negative connotations with this subject. It all really depends on the person and how they choose to see makeup.

I love and adore makeup, using it as my wig and having so much self-confidence to go out to the grocery store without a wig. It's just amazing.

There are a lot of things that are personally uncomfortable to show, especially me without makeup and completely bloated or crying. But I've realized that it's time for me to show my audience that you don't have to be perfect to achieve your dreams. Because nobody relates to being perfect.
