1 9 8 9 S A L V D O R Dali's Art Surrealism Salvador Dali was a Spanish Surrealist painter who lived during the 20th century. Dali is considered the greatest Surrealist painter, and used very strange and unique dream imagery to create landscapes of his inner world. Dali was born on May 11, 1904, in Figueres, Catalonia, Spain, and died January 23, 1989, where he was born. Dali was primarily a painter, though he was also a photographer and sculptor. He mainly used oil paints and was a Surrealist painter. Surrealism was a cultural movement that started in the 1920s, and is known for its visual artworks and literature. Surrealist works usually feature elements of surprise. Zhiyou Low D A L I General Information Information Salvador Dali's skill as a painter is often said to be influenced by Renaissance painters. Dali also claimed that he was a descendant of the Moors, the medieval Muslims who lived in Morocco. His eccentric behavior sometimes drew more attention to him than to his work. Interesting Photo by: Allan Warren Other Surrealist Artists Man Ray, Max Ernst, and Jean Arp were all Surrealist artists. Arp broke from the Surrealism movement, and together with Ernst, founded Abstraction-Creation. Ray was a photographer and worked a lot with photograms. But he still considered himself a painter above all. Dali Remembered "People love mystery, and that is why they love my paintings" Biography Resources http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvador_Dali
