What is, the novel, Uglies Theme?
By: Mahnoor Siddiqui
What is Theme?
Theme is the central message of the topic or story.
There were multiple themes in Uglies but I chose beauty as my theme.
What theme I chose?
I chose this theme because...
in the Uglies beauty is used many times and a very important part of the story. Also most people in the society think that beauty is the most important thing and is everything. The quote I used is in the next slide.
3 pieces of evidence from beginning, middle, and end:

Beginning- In chapter 10 Shay says, "“We’re not freaks, Tally. We’re normal. We may not be gorgeous, but at least we’re not hyped-up Barbie dolls.”
Middle- In chapter 32 Shay says, "Listen, Tally. That's not what's important to me. What's inside you matters a lot more." In chapter 31, “Becoming pretty doesn’t just change the way you look,” Tally said. “No,” David said. “It changes the way you think.”
End- In chapter 50, Tally wants to become pretty and says, “I’m Tally Youngblood,” she said. “Make me pretty.” In chapter 48 it said, "Your personality-the real you inside-was the price of beauty"

Poem or Song with similar theme:
A song I found with a similar theme to the Uglies was Outcast by Kerrie Roberts. An outcast is a person rejected from their society.
Analysis of Song:
Connection to Novel:
I connected the song to the novel Uglies, because it has the same idea about feeling like everyone is staring at you because your ugly and feeling like your society doesn't like you, you feel like an outcast.
Our Group Theme:
Our group theme was to have something to do with pink so I picked beauty as my theme because beauty and pink go together. I also looked for a salmon colored sky for my background because in the beginning of the book Tally says, "The early summer sky was the color of cat vomit," and we indicated that was probably the color of salmon.
The song Outcast is about feeling like everyone is looking at you and is like you don't fit in and your lonely. This song is depressing and sounds angry. It's like no one in your society likes you and you don't like yourself and think everyone hates you on how you look or are.
Thank You for Listening!!!
