Transcript of There are many pros and cons about the Spartan government an

The Athens government was called a Democracy. A Democracy is a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of state, typically through elected representatives. Athenian democracy developed in the Greek city-state of Athens, somewhere around 508 B.C. Athens was one the first known democracies.
Other Greek cities set up democracies even though most followed an Athenian model, but none were as powerful, stable or as well-documented as the Athens were. It remains a very unique experiment in direct democracy where the people do not elect representatives to vote on their behalf but vote on legislation and executives bills in their own right
here are many pros and cons about the Spartan government and Athenian government. The Athenian government is a better government than the Spartan government because the Athenian government is ruled by the people.
Spartan Government
The Spartans Government was called Oligarchy. Oligarchy is a small group of people having control of a country, organization, or institution. Sparta was a powerful city-state in ancient Greece. Sparta was ruled by a small group of retired warriors. This type of government is called Oligarchy. The Spartans spoke Greek and thought of themselves as Greek. But Sparta was very different from all the other Greek city-states.
All citizens in Ancient Greece were warriors but Spartans warriors were the best warriors in all of Ancient Greece.
A likes and Differences
There are some differences between the Athens government and Sparta government! Sparta has had two rulers who ruled until they died ,which was then passed down to an heir. Athens elect their rulers annually. Athens is said to be the birthplace of democracy. Sparta is an Oligarchy government. Sparta had five Ephors which had unlimited power and could overrule the kings. Athens had an assembly made up of all male citizens over the age of 20, they had full and final power.
All in all there are many pros and cons of each type of government (Democracy and Oligarchy). Based on the facts that i found in my research, in my opinion i think the Athenian Government, a Democracy, is the better choice because it is ruled and voted on by the people for the people.

Sparta used a council of Elders which consisted of 28 members all over the age of 60. They proposed the laws on which the assembly voted on. Athens used a council of five hundred, which was made up of citizens over 30 years old. They were chosen by lot, fifty from each tribe. they proposed the laws to the assembly. Lastly, in Sparta boys were forced into the military at a very young age. Athenian children could stay at home and get a good education and focus on arts and Sciences and later join the military.
