5th Grade Biography Projects
Standards and Objectives
Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.
Conduct short research projects that use several sources to build knowledge through investigation of different aspects of a topic.
Create an individual or shared multimedia work or digital text for a specific purpose (e.g.,to create or integrate knowledge, to share experiences or information, to persuade,to entertain,or as artistic expression.
Living Museum Presentation
Students who choose this presentation option will research and then
their important person through a dramatic oral presentation to the class.
Bio-in-a-Bag Presentation
Students who choose bio-in-a-bag will select 6-10 times that they feel represent their important person. Each item will be accompanied by a written description and facts about what part of their person's life the item(s) represent.
Power Point Presentation
As a part of the 5th grade biography standards, SPPS has incorporated media literacy standards which use technology to meet the requirements. For this presentation style, students will create and present their research through a power point.
Audio Interview Presentation
Students who choose an audio style presentation will take on the role of their important person and have someone interview them by asking questions they have come up with and researched the answers to. As an example, students will be shown this video interview.
Written Report with Oral Presentation
Along with arts integrated options, students will have the option to complete a basic written biography report that they will present to the class in a oral presentation.
Steps Towards Completion
Students will be shown examples of each option
Each student will fill out a project proposal form
Outlines will be completed for teacher approval
Work time for projects (2 weeks)
Present to the 5th grade classes
