The Army Aviation Branch that we know today began primarily during the Vietnam War
The branch became official on 12 APR 1983, and Aviation Officer Basic and Advanced Courses began at the branch's HQ Fort Rucker in 1984

Aviation officers coordinate/lead operations using Army helicopters: OH-58 Kiowa, UH-60 Black Hawk, CH-47 Chinook and the AH-64 Apache.
