Transcript of Transcendentalism

Trancendentalism By: Marisa Anthony http://www.google.com/imgres?q=nonconformity+comic+strip&num=10&hl=en&tbo=d&biw=1120&bih=658&tbm=isch&tbnid=T7-NcOiVC8QgnM:&imgrefurl=http://tfwo.tumblr.com/&docid=29tI_fssaf8A9M&imgurl=http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l02s1zZFZ11qb7ubn.gif&w=500&h=158&ei=qxmaUOuKFov88QTPwIHoBQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=2&vpy=340&dur=2016&hovh=126&hovw=400&tx=164&ty=78&sig=112619065736892406088&page=1&tbnh=63&tbnw=199&start=0&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:6,s:0,i:95 Nonconformity Comic Strip This comic strip represents nonconformity because the tiger does not greet the child the way a "normal" person would. This is a subtle connection to transcendentalism because transcendentalists tend not to conform. At the end of the strip the little boy says "Sometimes I wish you'd just buy me one of those "I missed you cards."" This implies that a card would be something that was expected out of someone who missed you. Instead, the tiger gives the little boy a giant attacking hug. Sometimes it is better to be a nonconform, because then life is never boring. Love of Nature Song "It was just another night
With a sunset
And a moonrise not so far behind
To give us just enough light
To lay down underneath the stars
Listen to papa's translations
Of the stories across the sky
We drew our own constellations."
Constellations-Jack Johnson http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/jackjohnson/constellations.html This song represents the transcendentalist thought of love of nature. Jack Johnson talks of laying underneath the stars and drawing their own constellations. This implies a certain love and appreciation that he has of nature and space. It also represents some simplicity by laying underneath stars to get away from a busy life. It also talks about "papa's translations of the stories accross the sky.." which says that his dad loved nature too and would make up stories about the constellations. It also talks about just another sunset and moonrise that he notices and a lot of people don't. Individualism Magazine Ad http://www.google.com/imgres?q=individualism+magazine+ad&num=10&hl=en&tbo=d&biw=1120&bih=658&tbm=isch&tbnid=YcjdsnJKQUGOcM:&imgrefurl=http://blog.substance-creative.co.za/portfolio/converse-100-original-campaign-2/&docid=k3J796y5fj47AM&imgurl=http://blog.substance-creative.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Converse-Magazine-Ad.jpg&w=1024&h=708&ei=NCCaUMjMIYTK9QSj94HAAw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=807&vpy=135&dur=906&hovh=187&hovw=270&tx=212&ty=139&sig=112619065736892406088&page=2&tbnh=144&tbnw=197&start=18&ndsp=25&ved=1t:429,r:5,s:18,i:153 This magazine ad stresses individualism. It states that by personalizing your converses, you can be an individual. It states that the shoe is a "...badge of independence..". This says that, because you can design the shoe however you want, it will make you stand out and be original. Individualism is a large part of transcendentalism, and this magazine ad stresses being an individual. Although it urges you to buy a shoe that many people have, it says that with that shoe, you can make it your own. Simplifying Life Quote Our life is frittered away by detail... Simplify, simplify
Henry Thoreau

http://www.best-quotes-poems.com/simplicity-quotes.html This quote from Thoreau stresses that sometimes, the most simple life is the happiest one. He means that details and other things get in the way of us leading a very happy and simple life where we do not have many things to worry about. By details he means things that are not necessary in our lives, and once we eliminate them, our lives will revert back to a time when there were not as many things to do. Sometimes now, we get stuck on details when all we need to do is take a step back from a busy life, and simplify to enjoy life.
