Read selected section of article, "Close Reading in Elementary Schools" pp. 181-182.

What is Close Reading?

Purposeful re-reading with complex text
No one correct way
A deeper understanding of the text is the goal
With scaffolding, students can overcome difficulty of a text
Teach strategies for students to apply when reading independently

Scenario-You are in the elevator at a conference when someone asks you what close reading is. Write a short speech on the essentials of a close reading routine that you could share.
