Let's Save Energy! By: Hyunzee & Jewel When we conserve energy, we keep the Earth healthy. When we keep the earth healthy and clean, we can live on our home longer. We can live healthier on earth, too! So let's try and use some green methods to save our Earth:
use renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydro energy.
plant trees because they are always being cut down for biomass and trees also give shade therefore we don't need to turn on the air conditioner on hot days How Do We Avoid Wasting Energy? Results How Do We Waste Energy Without Realizing It? More Fun Facts! We can save energy
anywhere, anytime! By 2050, solar energy alone will produce 1.3 x the current energy production in Canada!
A compact fluorescent light bulb uses 75 percent less energy than a regular bulb and it can last up to ten years!
A crack as small as 1/16th of an inch around a window frame can let in as much cold air as leaving the window open three inches!
Every time you open the refrigerator door, up to 30 percent of the cold air can escape! Some new refrigerator are so energy-smart they use
less electricity than a light bulb! An energy-smart clothes washer can save more
water in one year than one person drinks in an entire
lifetime! What forms of energy are the energy of the future? Realisation What Happens When We Conserve Energy? If you have a toaster with two slots in one make sure both slots are full if not you are wasting 50% of the energy because you are using the energy of toasting two pieces of bread when you are only toasting one! Well, we are always wasting energy even without realizing that we do. So we thought that maybe if you knew how we were wasting energy, that we could prevent this from happening more often and that you will be aware of it, too.
Here are some examples that we waste energy. You have been invited over to your best friend's house. You are very excited to hang out with your friend. You run downstairs, grab your iPod, and you're out the door. Uh oh! Your room light is still turned on! Guess what! Without even realizing it you're not doing your part in keeping our Earth green! You used your iPod a lot last night. There's only 20% of battery left. You must charge it so you can text your friends. You plug it in and leave to do your homework. When you finish, you start texting your friends. Oh no! Don't leave yet! You haven't unplugged the charger! Well, let's keep trying! In the future, we will use solar, wind, and hydro energy. We can rely on them because they're renewable sources. By 2050, solar energy alone will produce 1.3x the current energy production in Canada. We can also use shale gas in the future. Shale gas is very similar to coal. It was found when the skill of digging deeper into the ground for coal was developed by one of the countries. However we should still try to conserve energy! Let's keep the Earth clean and green! It may be something small like turning off your room light to something big like planting a tree, but either one saves energy and counts as doing your part in keeping our Earth clean and green! POP QUIZ 1.You're toasting toast for your family's breakfast. How do you save energy? Use both Slots instead of only one. Open windows or find shade 4. What percent of cold air escape everytime you open the refrigerator door? 30% 2. It's a very hot day and you want to cool off. List 2 ways you can keep cool but save energy, too. 3.True or False
20 % of cold air can escape everytime you open the refrigerator door. False 5. Fill in the blank.
A crack as small as ___/___ of an inch around a window frame can let in as much cold air as leaving the window open _______ inches! 1/16, three You are working on your science project at home. You have finished your part for the Prezi and you are going to go watch your favourite TV show. Oops! You forgot about what we told you of how we waste energy! Your computer's still on... ...
