Transcript of Gender Equality
How different society's are dealing with this topic
Sweden ranks as one of the world’s most pro-gender equality countries. An extensive welfare system makes it easier for both genders to balance work and family life. However, the Government recognizes that there is still room for improvement in many areas.
Why I chose this topic
I chose this topic because I strongly believe that all people, regardless of gender, should be treated as equals. No one is better then the other, we are all special and should be treated as such in all societies. Many woman in many countries are not given the proper things they need to live a healthy, safe life.
What I will be talking about
Today I will be talking about the importance of gender equality in different countries and the Because I Am A Girl foundation.
Dear Lord, please forgive us of our sins that occur everyday, and please guide us into the knowledge that we are all your children and everyone is special and important because you have made no mistakes.
In Jesus' name, amen.
There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
I think this passage is saying that no matter who you are where your from, or what you look like, we are all special in God's eyes and every person is important to him.
Feminization of poverty
The feminization of poverty is a title given to poverty amongst women worldwide. In many countries around the world women live in extreme poverty, all because they are female. Many women are not allowed to work, and often forced into marriage at ages as low as ten years old! Women are far more likely to be malnourished then men, and often times there husband will leave them within a few days of the woman becoming pregnant, leaving the teen girl to suddenly become a single mom or, in worse cases,
kill the newborn baby as soon as it's born.
Because I Am A Girl
Because I Am a Girl is an international campaign by the aid organization, Plan. The campaign is made to address the issue of gender discrimination around the world. The goal of the campaign is to promote rights of girls and bring girls out of poverty around the world. The campaign focuses on inequality faced by girls in developing countries, and promotes projects such as, safe washrooms for women only, medical care, and education.
This video is helping bring attention to the feminization of poverty
- 65 million girls across the world are out of school.
- Every 3 seconds, another girl is forced or coerced to marry.
-683,000 adult American women are forcibly raped each year. This equals 56,916 per month; 1,871 per day; 78 per hour; and 1 per minute.
- Plan works with millions of children in 58,000 communities in 50 developing countries.
Gender discrimination is a terrible problem in many society's, but I believe that if we continue with programs like Because I Am A Girl and if more people donate they're time and money even if just a little bit, we can continue to lower the extreme challenges faced by millions of women each day. I hope that one day we will live in a world were women and men will be treated as equals in every way worldwide.
Thanks for listening.
