ONYCHOCRYPTOSIS (INGROWN NAIL)

AFFECTS FINGERS AND TOES
NAIL GROWS INTO SIDES OF TISSUE AROUND THE NAIL
IF INFECTED REFER TO PHYSICIAN
POORLY FITTING SHOES
WALKING CAN PRESS NAIL INTO SOFT TISSUE UP AGAINST TOE NAIL MARGIN AND CONTRIBUTE TO INGROWN NAIL
DISEASE OF NAIL

IMPROPERLY DISINFECTED IMPLEMENTS
DISEASE OF THE NAIL
ONYCHOSIS
ANY DEFORMITY OR DISEASE OF THE NAIL
DISEASES OF THE NAIL
OCCUPATIONAL INFECTIONS
HARSH CLEANING SOLUTIONS
people who regularly place hands in harsh cleaning solutions are more susceptible to infections
NAIL DISEASES
INFECTION: REDNESS, PAIN, SWELLING, PUS, INFLAMMATION. SHOULD NOT BE TREATED IN A SALON. REFER TO PHYSICIAN

CAUSES OF INFECTION
CONTAMINATED IMPLEMENTS
INDICATION INFECTION
YELLOW GREEN SPOT
COLOR USUALLY GOES FROM YELLOW TO GREEN AND THEN BROWN
AVOIDING INFECTION
DON’T TAKE SHORT CUTS OR OMIT SANITATION
DISINFECT ALL IMPLEMENTS, LINENS AND CLEAN MANICURE TABLE
Nail Infection
PSUEDOMONAS AERUGINOSIS
MOLD OR NOT MOLD
????
In the past, discolorations (especially those between nail plate and artificial enhancements) were incorrectly referred to as molds. However, they are actually a bacterial infection caused by Pseudomonas Aeruginosa. These bacteria can grow out of control and cause infection under certain conditions.
NAIL FUNGUS
FUNGI
VEGTABLE PARASITE THAT INFECTION ON HANDS AND FEET
HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS!!!!!!
TRANSMITTED THROUGH UNSANITARY IMPLEMENTS AND WORK CONDITIONS
TRANSMITTED FROM NAIL TO NAIL OR CLIENT TO ANOTHER
GROWS WHERE SKIN IS WARM DARK AND MOIST
NAIL FUNGUS
CURVATURE NAIL
INCREASED CURVATURE OF NAIL
NAIL PLATE WITH DEEP SHARP CURVE AT FREE EDGE
DUE TO CURVATURE OF MATRIX
PLICATURED NAIL
FREE EDGE PINCHES SIDE WALLS INTO A DEEP CURVE
PINER NAIL
INCREASED NAIL CURVATURE
TRUMPET NAIL
ANOTHER FORM OF INCREASED CURVATURE
NAIL DISORDERS
PYTERGIUM
PYTERGIUM
ABNORMAL CONDITION CAUSED BY STRETCH OF NAIL PLATE
CAUSE BY SERIOUS INJURY(BURNS) OR ADVERSE NAIL REACTION
ABNORMAL DAMAGE TO EPONYCHIUM OR HYPONYCHIUM
DON’T PUSH SKIN BACK WITH INSTRUMENT MAY CAUSE INJURY AND WORSEN THE CONDITION
GENTLY MASSAGE CUTICLE CREAMS AND CONDITIONERS INTO AFFECTED AREA
HOT OIL MANICURES MAY HELP
NAIL DISORDERS
ONYCHORRHEXIS
ONYCHOPHAGY (BITTEN NAILS)
ACQUIRED NERVOUS HABIT
FREQUENT MANICURES
CARE OF HARDEN CUTICLE WILL HELP THIS HABIT
NAIL DISORDERS
LEUKONYCHIA (WHITE SPOTS)
WHITISH DISCOLORATION OF NAIL
DUE TO INJURY AT BASE OF NAIL OR MATRIX
EVENTUALLY WILL GROW OFF
NAIL DISORDERS
CAUSE AND CARE
HOT OIL MANICURES HELP
NEVER CUT LIVE TISSUE
HANG NAILS CAN BECOME INFECTED
IF REDNESS, PAIN, PUS OR SWELLING REFER TO PHYSICIAN
HANG NAIL OR AGNAIL

CONDITION WHERE LIVING SKIN SPLITS AROUND NAIL
DRYNESS OR CUTTING OF LIVE TISSUE CAUSE HANG NAIL
NAIL DISORDERS
CAUSES
PREGNANCY OR STRESS

NAIL DISORDERS
NAIL DISORDERS
A condition caused by injury to the nail or disease or imbalance in the body. As a professional, you must recognize those conditions you can treat and those that must be referred to a physician.
Nail Disorders
NAIL MALFORMATIONS
Disease, injury, or infection can affect the formation of the nails. If matrix remains in good condition, a normal nail will be replaced. Replacement normally takes 4 to 6 months.
NAIL DISORDERS
CHAPTER 10
NAIL DISEASES AND DISORDERS
Well-manicured nails, whether natural or artificially applied, have always been recognized as an indication of good grooming. It’s important to also remember that nails originate in the epidermal layer of the skin and, like hair, their condition is dependent upon the individual’s overall health. Nails contain the chemical substance called keratin, and can be cut without pain. You cannot apply any topical product that will cause nails to grow, but a balanced diet filled with the daily required vitamins and nutrients will help produce healthy, disorder-free nails. Remember that your creativity in providing quality nail services must be grounded in a thorough knowledge and awareness of the structure and physiology of the nails. Working on unhealthy nails can be dangerous to both you and your clients. Learning to identify those conditions that must be referred to a physician is critical to the safety of both you and your clients.
