history of animation 2 1.The thaumatrope is a toy dating back to the Victorian times it is a piece of card with pictures on each side. This is attached to a piece of string, when twirled the pictures look like they have joined together to make one picture. This is the earliest form of animation. 2.Some of the earliest forms of animation were cave paintings in which the drawings are shown to be moving. Some slightly more recent forms of animation are phenakistoscope and flip book. 3.The father of animation is Walter Elias Disney he and his brother were famous for starting up Walt Disney productions. He is an innovator in animation and also produced. 4.Snow white was first shown in 1937. It was a German tale. There have been many remakes on film and television. 5.Snow white had a significant influence in animation as it was the first animation in English and Technicolor. It was received very positively. The film earned over 8 million in its original theatrical release. Plane crazy and The Gallopin' Gaucho were Mickey mouse’s first cartoons, but he made it big in steamboat Willie. Plane Crazy first aired on May 15th 1928 with Mickey and Minnie. 7.I estimate that it would have taken 75,000 frames to make snow white if the movie was 83 min long and it was 15 frames per second. 8.10 animation films by Walt Disney would be: Cinderella, Snow White and the seven dwarfs, Fantasia, Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, The little mermaid, Aladdin, The black cauldron, Beauty and the Beast, The lion king. 9.The first Walt Disney character that Walt Disney drew was Oswald the lucky rabbit. Soon after he drew Mickey mouse. 10. Charles Schultz was famous for his long-running cartoon peanuts. He created snoopy and Charlie brown. The series ran from 1950 to 2000 it stopped a day after he died. He has been awarded with many medals including a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. 11. The animation used in toy story was computer generated. Toy story was the first fully computer generated movie. They started with a story board then they created some clay figures and then they transferred that to the computer. Once they had the characters they made them move and facial expression. 12. Harvey Krumpet was made with clay animation. It was made in Australia by Adam Elliot. This type of movie takes lots of time to make. You have to move the clay characters very slowly and taking constant pictures.Full transcript
