The Odyssey Timeline 1. Troy
After the Trojan War ended, Odysseus and his men begin their long journey back to Ithaca. 2. The Cicones
After leaving Troy, Odysseus and his men land on the Cicones island. After causing many drunken fights, Odysseus has to bring them back to the ship. 3. The Lotus Eaters
Odysseus and his men land on the island of the Lotus Eaters, where his men are persuaded to eat their Lotus Flower, making them forget about the journey and want to stay. 4. The Cyclops
The men find themselves inside the cyclops cave, and get stuck. They finally escape by Odysseus and his men stabbing him in his eye with a giant spear they made. 5. The Land of Aolia After escaping from the Cyclops island, Odysseus and his men land on the Island of Aeolia. The king gives Odysseus a magic bag of wind. One of the men opens the bag, and blows them to the island of the Laestrygonians. 6. Circe
After getting away from the Laestrygonians, who were cannibals, Odysseus lands up on Circe's island. She tells them that Odysseus must go to the Land of the Dead to find the prophet, Teiresias. The Goddess,Circe Odysseus goes alone to the Land of the Dead to find the blind prophet, Teiresias, as instructed by Circe. After raising him from the dead, he tells Oysseus 7 things that will happen in his future. 7. Teiresias and the Land of the Dead 8. Circe After leaving the Land of the Dead, Odysseus goes back to Circe's island to retrieve his men and prepare to make his way past the Sirens, which Circe warned them about. To pass the Sirens, Odysseus and his men put beeswax in their ears to keep from hearing them. Odysseus gets tied onto the front of the ship to hear what they are saying. 9. The Sirens Charybdis is a giant monster beneath the sea that swallows the water above it, and then shoots it back up three times a day. The men decide to go past the Scylla, a giant 6 headed, 12 legged monster. Although 6 of his men are sure to die while going past it, Odysseus would rather have 6 gone than the whole ship. He doesn't tell anyone so no one will panic. 10. Charybdis and the Scylla Charybdis The Scylla Odysseus and his men fins themselves on Helio's island, Thrinakia. Teirisius warned them not to eat Helios' cattle, or they would be killed. While Odysseus is away, Eurylochus convinces all of the men that starving is the worst way to die, and that they should eat the cattle. After Helios found out what they did, he has Zeus destroy their boat. 11. Thrinakia Odysseus ends up on Calypso's island, where she keeps him for years and years, but all he wants to get home. Even after offering him eternal life, he is miserable there, but cannot escape. Hermes is sent to help Odysseys escape, and make his way back to Ithaca. 12. Calypso At Alcinous' Court, Odysseys tells King Alcinous of his long journey home, and all of the troubles that he's gone through on the way there. 13. Alcinous' Court After 10 years at war and 10 years getting home, Odysseus makes his way back to Ithaca, where he reunited with his wife, Penelope, and his son, Telemachus. 14. Ithaca
