Transcript of Prezi - Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation

It all started with one lemonade stand
Held by one
little girl, with a
greater purpose…
… to help find a cure for all children with cancer
Held by one
little girl, with a
greater purpose…
Shortly before her first birthday, Alex was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a type of childhood cancer
Typical treatments helped delay the progression of her cancer, but by the age of four, her tumors had grown
It was during one of her hospital stays that Alex informed her mother, "when I get out of the hospital I want to have a lemonade stand."

She said she wanted to give the money to doctors to allow them to "help other kids, like they helped me."
That little girl’s name was
Alexandra (Alex) Scott
True to her word, Alex and her family raised $2,000 for her hospital that first year
In the years that followed, Alex and her family continued to hold yearly lemonade stands in her front yard to benefit childhood cancer research
Since its inception, Alex’s Lemonade Stand has grown because of the power of her story
It’s grown because it is a cause that affects so many
36 children a day, every day, in the United States are diagnosed with cancer
Childhood cancer is the number one disease killer of children in the United States
Of those children diagnosed today, more than 20% will not survive
Survivors of childhood cancer deal with lifelong side effects from the cancer and treatments
Held by one

greater purpose…
Our Mission is to raise money and awareness of childhood cancer causes, primarily research for new treatments and cures
We encourage and empower others, especially children, to get involved and make a difference for children with cancer
To date, we have raised more than $150 million...
… and funded over 800 childhood cancer research projects across North America
We provide a Travel Fund to help families get to and from treatments, and other resources to assist those in need
We also fund nursing grants to improve the quality of life and care of children with cancer
Each year, we also host an annual Childhood Cancer Symposium that brings childhood cancer families together to learn about the disease, treatment and beyond
We fund innovative breakthroughs through our Grants program, including funding the work of young, promising scientists
Why Do We Need Funding
Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of 15 years old in the United States
Research grant funding has reached its lowest point in history and this includes childhood cancer
And yet, childhood cancer research continues to be vastly and consistently underfunded
“Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation helped fund the research for this new drug and we could enroll in a trial. We were seeing his body responding. By the third day he got out of bed and he ran down the hall to the playroom. For sure Zach would not be here today without ALSF and the help that they give.”
Pam Witt, mom of childhood cancer hero Zach
It’s all about the kids
Our Values
We follow in our founder’s footsteps
Team Alex has no boundaries
Say it, mean it, do it
Be positive
One cup at a time is not just our slogan; it is how we conduct our business.
Held by one
little girl, with a
greater purpose…
Hold a lemonade stand, send in the proceeds, help kids with cancer
We’ll even send you a starter kit of materials
Hold a Different Kind of Event
Birthday parties, weddings, golf outings, collecting spare change, bake sales, car washes, etc… can all help fight childhood cancer
People of all ages can help raise support for childhood cancer research.
Let’s look at the story of Alivia Schirm, a
6-year-old girl. Alivia held her stand in the driveway of her Grammy and Grandpa's house
Alivia really was pleased to see how generous everyone was. At times, people donated without even taking a cup of lemonade or snack!
Alivia's Uncle Derek built her stand from scratch using old pallets. Alivia, her mom, dad and her 3 year-old brother all painted the stand.
Alivia said the whole experience was “really fun and cool. A lot of people were coming and raising a lot of money. I liked that because it could help children with cancer."
Alivia got help from her family, but she did most of the work herself the day of the stand.
She raised $545!
