Transcript of The Disappearing Pangolin

The Disappearing Pangolin
The organization for Nature Vietnam is trying to curb the demand of pangolins in Asia
Sign Kit Skogsbergh's Petition on Change.org !!
-Kit filed a petition asking Disney to create an animated character of a Pangolin

-Most people do not consider Pangolins to be attractive or “charismatic” like a tiger or an elephant which are found in many zoos as well as animations, including the box office hit
Madagascar

-
people may find a certain level of protection in celebrity

Pangolins are on the endangered species but are still being killed by the thousands in Asia.
Conclusion
John Sutter states "If the pangolin went to high school, it would be the drama geek -- elusive, nocturnal, rarely appreciated and barely understood”

ECOSYSTEM EQUILIBRIUM
-Researchers at Ohio State University claim that billions of dollars are spent annually on repairing, treating, or preventing termite damage (Pappin).

-Maintaining the Pangolins population can help alleviate these problems!

BETTER SOIL
- When digging they are aerating the soil

-Without them our soils will not be able to produce more vegetation

- The not only affects the diversity of plant life but could hinder the growth of plants that other animals, besides humans feed on, which again affects the whole food chain
DEMAND BETTER LAW ENFORCEMENT
-Pangolin scales and meat are easily accessible at street venders........
WHICH IS ILLEGAL!!!!

-Many of the national parks in Vietnam and China do not have an adequate amount of park rangers on duty, and the ones who are, are usually corrupt

IMPORTANT ROLES IN THE ECOSYSTEM
-Natural method to controlling pests
Its predicted that one pangolin consumes as much as 70 million insects per year!!! That’s about 192,00 insects each day!!

- While pangolins are mining for ants and
termites they are mixing and aerating the soil
similar to what plows do to a crop field.

-If they can raise 5000 they plan to produce a pangolin public service announcement to air on TV

-How can you help? You can go to http://www.envietnam.org/ to donate

-There has been plenty of public service announcements to save the tigers and elephants but never any for the pangolin even though they are the most trafficked mammal in the world

HOW DOES THE POPULATION AFFECT HUMANS?
HOW CAN WE HELP??

- Sign Kit's Petition at Change.org!!

-Help air a PSA in Vietnam at envietnam.org!!

- Educate people on the Actual health benefits of pangolin....Would you put your own fingernails in medicine?... Because they are made of the same things as pangolin scales!!!!!!!
EDUCATE AND RAISE AWARENESS!!
PRESSURE
-Demand better law enforcement!!

- Not buying products made from Pangolins

- Demand the increase in Park Rangers to monitor illegal hunting and trading!
- TRAFFIC
- Education for Nature Vietnam

-Boycott goods from Vietnam and China until they start taking the endangered species list seriously

FOR THE SAKE OF HUMANITY!!
