Pancreas, Liver, & Gallbladder
Transcript of Pancreas, Liver, & Gallbladder
The pancreas is 12.5 to 15 cm
It looks similar to your tongue
The pancreas is located....
It's in the back of the abdomen
To be exact, it is between the stomach & spine
What is the size of the pancreas?
The functions of the pancreas...
Exocrine gland- help break down carbohydrates, fats, proteins, & acids
Endocrine gland- hormones in pancreas are insulin & glucagon (regulates level of glucose)
Pancreas is related to the digestion..
It manufactures the digestive enzymes
For instance, it breaks down fats and proteins
What enzymes are produced by the pancreas?
Lipase - Works with bile from the liver to break down fat muscles so they can be absorbed and used by the body.
Protease - Breaks down proteins and helps keep the intestines free of parasites.
Amylase - Breaks down carbohydrates into sugars which are more easily absorbed by the body
How does the liver function in relation to digestion?
-The liver produces bile that goes into the gallbladder.
-Which is used for digesting fats so the body can absorb it easier.
What is the relationship between
the liver and the gallbladder?
The basic answer is, in terms of a relationship, The liver produces bile and the gallbladder stores and releases it for digestion
What is Bile you ask? What Does it do and Where Does it Enter the Digestive Tract?
-Removes toxins from our blood
-It also processes drugs & alcohols we take in
-Works in unison with the immune system to remove bacteria from the bloodstream
-Stores glycogen as an emergency energy source
-Stores iron for red blood cell production
What are other functions of the liver in the body?
It connects through the small intestines through the small intestines at the duodenum and it lies beneath the stomach
How does the Pancreas connect to the rest of the digestive system?
It is a hormone produced by the pancreas that allows glucose to enter the cells and provide energy
How is insulin related to the digestive system?
A woman's liver is 7cm and weighs 1200g to 1400g
A man's liver is 10.5cm weighs 1400g
The liver is concealed by the right rib cage and is beyond the reach of an examiners hand.
What is the size of the liver and where is it located?
Bile is a bitter greenish-brown fluid that is secreted by the liver and stored in the gallbladder to aids in digestion.
Bile contains bile acids, which break down fats into fatty acids to be adsorbed in the small intestine
Bile enters the small intestine through the Common bile duct.
