Spatial Organization
ASL has a visual way organizing info into groups of related thoughts, actions, or details by using
Shoulder-Shifting.
You can set up a group of thoughts on your left, in the middle, and on the right.
Example:
(left) In the morning, I get up and eat breakfast.
(middle) In the afternoon, I eat lunch and relax.
(right) In the evening, I eat dinner and hang out with
friends.
Copy this down in your journal.
1. Morning Afternoon Evening

Wake up Go to school Eat dinner
Get up Go to work Brush teeth
Eat Breakfast Relax Get in bed

2. Morning Afternoon Evening

Alarm Rings Go to school Read
Wake up Eat lunch Cook dinner
Shower Watch TV Go to bed early

3. Morning Afternoon Evening
Wake up early Shower Visit friends
Exercise Change clothes Study
Brush teeth Go to class Set alarm
Fall asleep
Use Spatial Organization to sign the following information. Start by signing the group (time of day) then group them accordingly on your left, middle, and right.
On your sheet of paper, fill in the top table with various daytime routines. You can use the same word/phrase more than once.

When you are done, you will sign it to your partner using spatial organization while they write down YOUR routine in the bottom box. They will do the same for you.

There will be NO TALKING!!! If I hear people talking, there will be an automatic 5 point deduction for each violation. :)
Sorry!! You have to learn to use your hands!
Spatial Organization Practice
FS/# Quiz
Culture Notes
Each row of desks will get 7 pieces of paper. Each person gets 1 paper.

You will have 4 minutes to complete the section of your notes by using the Culture Notes handout.

When the 3 minutes are up, you will pass the handout to the person behind you.
Follow the instructions on the rest of your paper. If you need clarification, you may raise your hand. DO NOT JUST BLURT OUT YOUR QUESTION! You are big girls and boys, you can probably figure it out!
:)

There should be NO TALKING! Any voices heard will receive -5 on their paper for each violation.

Remember to use
Shoulder-Shifting
to compare your routine to Kris' routine!! Make sure to APPLY what you have learned so far.

The Sign Language Continuum
ASL - visual, spatial, conceptual, 3-dimensional

PSE - ASL but in English word order

SEE - ASL signs but in English word order, plus prefixes, suffixes, articles, prepositions, etc...
My mom is going to the store with my little brother.
ASL - STORE MY MOM LITTLE BROTHER GO-TO

PSE - MY MOM GO-TO STORE WITH LITTLE BROTHER.

SEE - MY MOM IS GOING TO THE STORE WITH MY LITTLE BROTHER.
CL: C
CL: C is used for cylindrical objects.

Examples: CUP - SODA CAN - TRASH CAN - DRINK

The concept of TABLE, or any flat surface, is signed with CL:B. Signing CL:C on CL:B conveys that the cup is
ON
the table.

This is an example of a visual preposition.
Mixed Media Project
YOU are going to be creating your own
mixed-media project.

Start by thinking of a popular brand with
an identifiable logo. Then change it up
to reflect ASL, Deaf culture,
Deaf pride, etc.

Be creative!!!
Due today!

When you are finished, you will sit at your desk QUIETLY!!

If you have homework or something else to do, please do so. You will not be up and around the room making noise.

If you don't have something quiet to do, I will give you sometime quiet to do. :)

For your expressive presentation this week, you are going to prepare a dialogue with a partner. This will cover ALL of the units we have done so far.
Expressive
Presentation
Dialogue
On your sheet of paper,
decide who will be A and B.

Then go back and look at your Unit 1 vocabulary. Come up with a few sentences using those words. Do the same thing for Units 2-10.

Make sure your sentences from each unit connect in some way. This should be a DIALOGUE not an INTERVIEW.

On your paper, indicate which sentences are from which unit.
Write in GLOSS.
Yes, you will turn these in.
Remember the talking RULE!!!!

Questions??
+10 points for memorizing your dialogue

You will record on Thursday.

You can either turn in ONE paper or TWO papers, whichever is easiest for you to practice with.

You will have time to practice tomorrow and Wednesday.
