Transcript of 1861 Bicycle by Pierre Michaux
Is the invention still being used?
Yes, the bicycle is still being used today. All for the same reasons; for fun/fitness and for transportation. The bicycle is used all around the world, especially in places like: Netherlands, Germany, France, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and China.
The bicycle was invented in France and was used globally throughout history.
The bicycle and modern society
Nowadays, more people take their car or a tram to work or school rather than bikes. Although it still is used a lot, especially countries in Europe.
New problems that have been happening with the safety is that a car door might open while the bike is riding in its lane or the car might be driving out of parking. Another problem - if you ride your bike to work, is you might get sweaty or a bit tired. Or at home it might take a lot of space. Also, a problem was that bikes could get stolen.
What is it used for and why?
The bicycle was invented so it could be used as another method of transportation. Although, it was originally made for the wealthy so they could use it as toys. It became the first widely affordable meas of personal transportation. Then, it went back to being used for fun, fitness, for competitions and sport.
Pierre Michaux was born on the 25th of June, 1813 at Bar le Duc, France. He was a blacksmith who furnished parts for the carriage trade in Paris, during the 1850's and 60's.
Pierre was not the only inventor of the bicycle, since him and his son Ernest Michaux only added on the pedals onto the bike.
Others who are considered to be the inventors of the bicycle are:
The bicycle did not start out the way it is today, like most. There were many types of bikes. One, that you would ''feet walk'' so when the pedals where invented they were much more efficient.
A lot has changed from the first bicycle to the modern one now, but you can trace a lot of it back to the old one, making it an important to the history of this technology.
The process happened in a long period of time. Since, there was more than one invention and a lot of changes, it didn't all happen at one time. There have been a lot of changes to how it is now - and it is still changing.
