The Nazi's used two major organizations to achieve their goals: the school system and youth groups.
Visual Arts
Once students ended their education and youth movements, they would join institutions, such as RAD & DAF, to ensure they did not escape control

On May 10 1933 Nazis and supporters gathered together in an event known as The Burning of the Books.


The Books burned were either:

Literature written by Karl Marx, Erich Maria Remarque and others were burned in book burnings.

Bauhaus Style
Failure
-Walter Gropius had started the Bauhaus style and had influenced all aspects of design in furniture and architecture.
-The approach he took was functional and he used materials such as steel, cement and plastic while putting them in geometric shapes.
In January, 522,000 Jews lived in Germany
304,000 Jews emigrated during the first 6 years of Nazi leadership
German Faith Movement failed
Churches also failed to stand against Nazi policy; individual Christians questioned the regime more consistently
Feminists may argue that the regime was racist towards women and it portrayed them as mere objects.
Non feminists would say that the policies helped them in some ways such as “Improved welfare services” which made it easier on the women.
There isn’t a sure thing whether the policy failed or succeeded but it was mainly “contradictory and incoherent.” It was not what it seemed to be.

-July 1937 - Two contrasting art exhibitions were launched and called 'Degenerate Art' and 'Great German Art'.
Jazz became popular in Germany in the Swingin' Twenties during the Weimar republic. When Hitler became fuhrer he made sure that un-German music was nonexistent, which meant that Jazz and Swing were looked down upon due to their African and American roots.
The goal of Nazi education was to indoctrinate students with the National Socialist world view
-'Degenerate Art' was purposely held up to be mocked and then later destroyed many of the pieces.
How successful were these policies?
Boys: physical and military type activities -- target
shooting, hiking, camping, ball games, boating, biking
Girls: domestic and maternal tasks -- cooking, bearing children
Music such as Jazz and Swing were banned due to their origins ...

-'Great German Art' was glorified for all the major themes of

and celebrated classic styles and traditional nineteenth-century romanticism.
Control over teachers - 1937. That was a great way of spreading Nazism especially to the students, who were the countries future leaders.
97% of public school teachers which is around maybe 300,000 had joined the Nazi League by 1936
Failures
" I promise always to do my duty in the Hitler Youth, in love and loyalty to the Führer."
Poor quality of students- students were never really taught anything apart from 'Hitler was the greatest' and military stuff
Decreasing quality of teaching professions, by 1938, recruitment of teachers had declined
Created ignorant individuals who could not think for themselves they were most likely dependent on Nazi ideology.

All educational courses were controlled by the Nazis and there were three new specializations emphasized: science, modern languages, and classics. Including textbooks

The textbooks the students used were all controlled by the Nazis- History, Biology, Physical Education

All professors were forced to join the National Socialist Teacher’s League to serve as a watchdog and report on other teachers’ behaviors and teachings
The Nazi party tried their very best to control teachers in school.

The teachers had a camp to attend for them to be indoctrinated for 8-14 days courses to exercise the expectations of the fuehrer

Give birth to as many children as possible and take care of them.
Submission to their husband.
Not allowed access to high earning jobs. Women were usually allowed to be nurses or midwives.
Divorce and extra-marital sex was not frowned upon as long as women were producing healthy babies. If one got divorced, and did not remarry soon, one would be sent to a concentration camp.

The main goal of the Nazi regime was to rebuild Germany and make the strong nation it was before WWI. To do this Hitler wanted to ensure that healthy babies were being produced in order to prepare them to serve in the army (males) and continue to produce healthy babies (females).

However...Jewish film actors and directors were removed. Many though decided to leave Germany
